Call oklahoma dept of wildlife...if you get caught with those without a permit it's bad juju
I sat 8 of them in the incubator, other 2 were cracked & he said 2 broke when he hit the nest. They seem to be around day 10 at the latest. The eggs were so smooth. Like marbles. Strombergs sales eastern & rio grande wild turkeys for sale. Doesn't say they are restricted. I will give the wildlife dept a call but doubt I can get a straight answer. Personally not interested in trying to have wild turkeys as pets. The guy that hit the nest felt guilty & said he didn't want to be responsible for the murder of all those babies.

The spotty ones you have are a Silver Pencil feather pattern, not sure what breed, where did you get them? could be crossed with anything! JMO!!! Lynn
Any ideas on breeds for the above chicks? I think the small blue one is an OEGB, the three buff ones Orpingtons. I have no idea about the two spotty ones. They look similar but one has feathered legs. The one without feathered legs looks a little bit like an OEGB mix but I couldn't get a good picture of her.

Subject: [bringbacksimplicity] Epsom salt how to use it

Epsom Salt is a pure mineral compound (magnesium sulfate) in crystal form that gently exfoliates skin and smoothes rough patches. Mixed with your favorite deep conditioner, Epsom Salt helps to add body to hair. Dissolved in a bath, Epsom Salt is absorbed through the skin to replenish the body’s levels of magnesium. Studies indicate this may help to relieve stress in a number of ways, including:
  • Raising the body’s level of serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of well being and relaxation.
  • Offsetting excess levels of adrenaline generated by pressure and stress; magnesium ions relax and reduce irritability by lowering the affects of adrenaline.
  • Helping to regulate the electrical functions that spark through miles of nerves.
  • Lowering blood pressure.
Researchers have found that magnesium also increases energy and stamina by encouraging the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy packets made in the cells. Experts recommend soaking with Epsom Salt at least three times a week to look better, feel better and have more energy.
Studies show these benefits from the major components of Epsom Salt may:Magnesium:
  • Ease stress and improves sleep and concentration
  • Help muscles and nerves function properly
  • Regulate activity of 325+ enzymes
  • Help prevent artery hardening and blood clots
  • Make insulin more effective
  • Reduce inflammation to relieve pain and muscle cramps
  • Improve oxygen use
Sulfates:
  • Flush toxins
  • Improve absorption of nutrients
  • Help form joint proteins, brain tissue and mucin proteins
  • Help prevent or ease migraine headaches
From Disabled World
Other medicinal and home uses for Epsom salts include:
Magnesium sulfate paste has been used as an agent for drawing boils and carbuncles. For instance Magnoplasm is a dehydrated mixture of magnesium sulphate and glycerol used for treatment of abscesses, boils and carbuncles. Magnoplasm can be used cold or warmed for easier spreading.
  • Epsom of salts is the first-line antidysrhythmic agent for Torsades de pointes in cardiac arrest under the 2005 ECC guidelines.
  • Recent studies have shown that magnesium sulfate can be nebulized to reduce the symptoms of acute asthma attacks.
  • Intravenous magnesium sulfate may be able to prevent cerebral palsy in preterm babies.
  • Magnesium sulfate can also delay labor in the case of premature labor, to delay Preterm birth.
  • Users of Epsom Salts in the gel form can be used for reduction of pain associated with fybromyalgia and osteoporosis.
  • It has been shown that both magnesium and sulphate are absorbed through the skin when bathing in 1% solution of Epsom salts.
  • Epsom salts can be used to treat pre-eclampsia in pregnant women.
  • Epsom of salts solution has also been used to remove blemishes and acne when applied in poultice form.
  • Soaking in a bath with added Epsom salts can soothe muscle aches and pains and help improve rough patches in the skin.
From Salt Works:
  • Researchers and physicians report that raising your magnesium levels may: Improve heart and circulatory health, reducing irregular heartbeats, preventing hardening of the arteries, reducing blood clots and lowering blood pressure.
  • • Epsom Salt improves the body’s ability to use insulin, reducing the incidence or severity of diabetes.
  • • Epsom Salt flushes toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain and helping the body to eliminate harmful substances.
  • • Epsom Salt improves nerve function by regulating electrolytes. Also, calcium is the main conductor for electrical current in the body, and magnesium is necessary to maintain proper calcium levels in the blood.
  • • Epsom Salt relieves stress. Excess adrenaline and stress are believed to drain magnesium, a natural stress reliever, from the body. Magnesium is necessary for the body to bind adequate amounts of serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of well being and relaxation.
  • While increasing your magnesium levels, TheraSoak – Epsom salt also delivers sulfates, which are extremely difficult to get through food but which readily absorb through the skin. Medical research indicates sulfates are needed for the formation of brain tissue, joint proteins and the mucin proteins that line the walls of the digestive tract. Sulfates also stimulate the pancreas to generate digestive enzymes and help to detoxify the body’s residue of medicines and environmental contaminants.

Ksane, I have only named the ones I know I'm not eating, Reba I am 99 % sure is female, Shakespear will be my flock roo, and Ms. White while I'm sure she is a boy, I'm holding out hope that she is a girl, if so YIPEE, if not Poco will take him back for breeding since he is so big and has such a bare neck. I have name ideas if any of the rest are girls, the barred ones will be shakesperian women, and the black ones will be female names associated w/ E. A. Poe.

Oh good, that makes me feel better. I don't think I'll be any good at attempting to process someday if I can't even stand the thought of you processing!

And here's the happy couple. I'm pretty sure this little boy has something wrong with his legs (hence the awkward waddle). But he doesn't need perfect legs at my house so it's all good.

Does anyone in Duncan (or really close to it) and Buff Orpington hens for sale? There is a guy who I work with who's family was given a Buff Opr rooster that has become a pet. They really want to get some hens for him so they can raise more (they have a small farm with other chickens already)

Greybear23 Very interesting, thanks for posting it. I have used it to soak critters feet when they had abscesses between their toes. My mother would make me soak my feet in it whenever I stepped on a nail as a child. Seems like I was forever stepping on nails, I never got infected but I am sure I received more tetanus shots than what is recommended nowadays.

Thanks for the info on Epson Salts, just justifies my soaking in the tub more often, lol. I do take Magnisium daily to help with blood pressure issues and with kidney stones.

Mitzi, they look like such a cute couple!!! Nathanael got a little roo from the auction he is working on taming. It is a bit spastic and not used to being handled clearly. I will have to get pictures of him soon. He needs a bath but I didn't have time to give him one on Sunday so it will have to wait for Friday.

Christina that is crazy on the turkey eggs!!! It isn't like you went out looking for wild turkey eggs to put in your incubator because you are so low on eggs avail to hatch! LOL

Took 3 people but they say can't incubate any eggs that are found in wild. Personally think it is a tad crazy. The state would prefer to let the eggs get destroyed than have a chance. We have turkey season to remove extra turkeys, so I understand not adding to the population.
Wild turkeys are ok to purchase from mail order companies but not to obtain from the wild. So how do they know the difference & how did strombergs get their feeding stock?

First, I'm proud of you for doing the right thing...I'm going to try to answer your questions...but I'm not wanting to cause an argument...

The reason any organization can sell North American native animals is they do have a wildlife permit. It's not their job to say they're restricted, because every state is different. I can tell you for the state of Oklahoma, anything that is native needs a permit. Kansas for instance, only requires permit for species native to that state. The way they would know the difference is when OK dept of Wildlife came to your door they would do two things, ask you for your sales receipt and then ask to see your permit. Heavy fines could be incurred for "keeping State's wildlife".

Although you were trying to help the guy out who felt bad for the eggs, which is good and I might have been inclined to do the same, most people would not want wild eggs in any incubator or hatcher. The types of disease that those things could bring in could devastate any domesticated poultry.

So yes, unfortunately, the state would prefer the eggs get destroyed.

You could apply for a rehabilitator license so you could hatch native eggs in the future. Here is the link to that as well as other wildlife licensing http://wildlifedepartment.com/license/other.htm

Hope this helps.
