It takes two months just like a dog. So if you have none by that time they weren't bred. But if they were with a male they proably are. No they don't use a box. They will just have them in the cage. They prefer solid bottom cages. Pl;astic tubs mkae great piggy pens. use pine shaveings or pellets. They will need rabbit pellets and any fruits and vegetables except the cabbage family,they can't burp! I have open bottomed pens and put mine down on the ground during the day,they love grass,can't get enough of it.
You will know they are preggo because they get very wide! I think he will love them. They are the best pet for a kid,they don't bite,scratch,kick etc. And they get to know your routine and will whistle when they hear you comming with food! Let me know if I can help him with any problems.

And this is her daughter out of the Brazillian that I aquired from Got Game.

I am curious. It looks like the hen has a partial bare neck but the pullet has total feathers on her neck. I thought that anytime a NN was in the breed mix you will end up with a NN offspring. The pullet is gorgeous, but she sure seems to have feathers on her neck.

This is the first time I have seen lacing on a NN. Absolutely gorgeous.

Welcome to OKIE land...Meeker Ok. What kind of chickens do you have?

I really thought there'd be no way I'd win those EE eggs, but surprise! I put them under our broodie as soon as we got home. She couldn't fit them under her properly in the nest she already had so I fixed her up. This is on a shelf where she had built a nest out of hay, so I gave her some walls for support with this tub and put it in the same spot that she had already and she's happy! Took this pic today. She's on the small side but she's determined!

Asking questions is how you learn! I've taken to writing things down so I don't forget.

Today our next door neighbors hosted a family get together and, since there is no fence between our yards, several folks wandered over to my pens. Got to introduce someone very interested in chickens to BYC. One very common reason for wanting chickens this year is all the bugs!

I cleaned/scrubbed a small pen and all my brooders today. Those littles sure do make a mess! I moved every size up a pen, 10 got to go outside!

We must be cut from the same cloth. I spent most of today doing the same thing. Even moved some outside to the empty rooster pen after I cleaned the coop out there. I totally cleaned out the floor pen in the baby house....seven 5 gallon buckets of wood shavings and poo went to the compost pile. Surprising how much chick food is wasted. I bet there was a whole 50 #s on the floor in the whole new side.
Anybody have suggestions for how to keep those littles from throwing their feed out of the feeders?
Found one of the broodie hen's chicks up on the shelf snoozing under one of the hanging brooder lights.

Nanakat, or any other gardeners. I bought some sweet potato slips the other day, but didn't have a chance to plant them. The place where I bought them had them in a refrigerator, so I stored mine in the refrigerator for 2 days until I could plant the (well actually 1.5 days) anyway my fridge frosted them, will they survive?

If the stems are still firm...not soft, you might still be good on planting them. If all the leaves are wilted...it will be iffy.

The very bare necked ones have 2 naked genes, but the ones w/ the large bow ties (patch of feathers in the front) only have one naked gene, so the offspring can either have one, or no naked genes if bred to an non naked neck or if bred to a two naked or another one naked they can even have the two naked genes and a very bare neck,

Well, another POOPS for the history books. Number five! Glad so many got to come but alas
I never got to meet everyone. Always seems to be too much going on to get around to everyone.
I think for next year I will try and plan for a better opportunity to meet with folks.
This event is successful because it brings good people together. Those of us that work hard to
do the things it takes to produce the event know that it still would not be a success if not for
all of the people who attend. So everyone who comes to this event has a hand in making it a hit!
I would personally like to thank a few folks that helped in various areas and without whom, POOPS
wouldn't have happened.

To SOONER (Carah) She has been involved with this event since the beginning. She has been in
charge of getting the Tee shirt design, taking and tracking the orders and getting them picked up,
delivered and collecting the money.
She has also been the food/lunch coordinator for all five of of the events. But more importantly to me,
she has been my friend, my sounding board and someone who keeps me grounded when I think I am
losing my mind.
Without her and a few others I wouldn't attempt to plan an event of this magnitude.
I will always be grateful!

CITYCLUCKS (Beth) Another person from whom I have always leaned on and sought advice.(I can feel her
her smile through the computer screen.)
Her enthusiasm and love for this event are a big reason that it has continued through the years.
In addition to tracking everyone is coming, she mans the welcome table and provides name tags for everyone.
On top of that she has supplied our sound system and music for almost all of the events, just as she did this year.

NANAKAT (Katheryn) What can I say about someone in her first year in our group and who stepped in to
handle the raffle project. Doing it all from encouraging everyone to donate items for the raffle, keeping track of the items,
and putting it all together on "Game Day". I can never express how much I appreciate her willingness to take this on
and the hard work she provided.

MUESKY (Rebecca) She has been on track helping track what everyone wants to buy or wants to sell through several
of our events. Maintaining and updating the list for several months. It is a big plus and gives people an idea of what
will be at our event and what others are looking for.

JCATBLUM (Christina) What an outstanding job she did organizing and doing the hard work it took for the Children's Egg Contest.
It was a huge success and her idea to create this new addition to POOPS is greatly appreciated.
Surely it will a continuing part of the event.

To everyone else for whatever it was that you may have done to make this an outstanding event, but mainly for just being there!

Oh that part, all birds carry the NN genes, if feather-necked it is written nana with no capital letters. if it is a Hetyrozygous bird it is written Nana and a Homozygous bird it is written NaNa.

A true homozygous bird will only produce NN offspring, no matter what it is bred to and you will get about a 50/50 split with a Hetrozygous bird.

The only two ways to identify a true homozygous bird is either through DNA testing, way too expensive, or through mating to other birds. It has been determined in the last few years that the amount of feathers on the necks is not a good indication of the gene structure of the bird. As us old farts thought!

Monty and I had a discussion about this yesterday. He has bare-necked birds in his breeding program and is still getting feather-necked birds out of the offspring.

As it has been during past events, POOPS was a warm fuzzy day of fun, food and friends. The facility was wonderful (I hope we are allowed to use it again), the music was a trip down memory lane, and I got to taste all the favorites dishes that I have come to associate with this BYC group.

Monty - you continue to pull all the parts of this event together. Thank you for being willing to do that, even knowing ahead of time what is involved.

Monty, Thank you for carrying the 3 red roos for Oakieridge. I so enjoyed meeting you and those few others who were there so late in the afternoon when I finally showed up. Thanks to everyone who organized and ran different events and things so POOPS would be a success.

Sooner, if you would PM me with an address, I'll send you a check for the two shirts I ordered. I'll pick them up or if you'll be in Muskogee in June, I'll get them then.

CItyClucks, P&B, Nanacat, Muesky and Stray - so nice to get to meet you all and put a face to the names. Great to just get the chance to visit, pick up a few errant Cheetoes and trash, and to breathe some warm fresh air and feel like I was among friends. Your compassion and understanding was a lovely experience.

I am so looking forward to POOPS next year and to NEOCS next month!
