***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Just removed keets from the hatcher. Best hatch in the sportsman all yr I think. We didn't do anything different but 95% hatch --of course when I tell Taron she can keep the next 2 hatches they all hatch!

Well, I read somewhere that my leghorns wouldn't become broody .. however, I have a white leghorn that is most definitely broody and has eight eggs now. We watched her move an egg from another nest into hers as well, pushing it with her beak. I was stunned but amused at the same time. Got a little break in the weather finally this afternoon. Temps dropped dramatically in just a few minutes from 101 to 83. Wish it would stay that way ... but I guess that's too much to hope. Guess I'd better go tend to the birds and figure out where our 1 small rabbit is getting out. The other 6 are staying put but every morning this week we've had one little one either in the asparagus bed or on the compost pile munching away.

Now you just made me go out and get pictures of mine lol! Ours are sisters :)
My 3 Araucana pullets from Joe are in with a pair of Phoenix their age, a Sebright pullet and 2 D'Uccle pullets. The whole group is real gentle with each other. It's an odd grouping but it works.
The 7 Araucanas from a different bloodline are doing great, too. I really love the personality of this breed. If you need a male I think I have a Splash and a Black from that group

Here's my 3 from Joe and then the Phoenix pair and Sebright. The boy Phoenix is on the left, they're both Silver Duckwings (I love that color!) but boys look different. I like the female version of it best.

they are looking great makes me almost wish i had keept them lol

Remember the guinea pigs that Jaxon bought at Newcastle the same evening as POOPS? One mama had 3 kits in June and the second female had 2 kits this week. We now have 7 guinea pigs of various ages.

On another note, my 3 blue - black shoulder peahens started laying eggs this week - after laying only one egg all spring and summer. The peacock has been displaying constantly, unlike the other peafowl varieties that have shed their trains. I guess they are just on a different schedule than the other varieties.

Help!!! We have a chick whose feet aren't spread out like they should be. One toe is curled up, almost like an arthritic hand looks. Any ideas?

Congrats on the G.pigs P&B! I have gotten out of them for a while and wouldn't you know it,they have went sky high around here! Don't know what made the hike in prices but ones that used to go for #2-3 at auctions now bring $15-20!
Had another day of rain. Glad to have it but kind of would like it spread out over a few weeks rather than a few days! I have been penned up inside all wek so am really ready for sale day tomorrow!

P&B i had a litter of mini rex rabbits born this week. The doe next to her decided she should have babys to so she pulled hair and made a nest. She isn't due for two more weeks!lol. Everytime a doe next to her has babys she does this!I guess you could call it sympathy pains!lol

Do a search for splinting crooked feet and you'll find lots of info about it. People make splints out of the most amazing stuff. UpCDayZ (who I miss and still can't spell her screen name right!!) made some toe splints out of those little round furniture pads that are sticky on one side. She cut it them to fit, it was genius lol

Heading out at 6 in the morning to pick up my 40 new layers! I don't even know what breed they are and don't really care. It will be a surprise.

I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve! Gotta go to sleep so Santa can come!!!

I just went through this with one of my little chicks.

I was trying to find a picture of it, but i couldn't find it. Here's a description: Get out the Band-Aids. Cut the sticky ends off the Telfa pad. Put one sticky pad down, sticky side up and place the foot with toes extended on it. Put the other sticky pad down, sticky side down on top of this to make a "Foot Sandwich". Keep this on for at least 24 hours. Usually this is enough time for the feet to adhere to their new position but if need be, do it for another day. The pads are enough. No need for cardboard or pieces of margarine lids. Good Luck.

I also did this after i took the foot splint off:

Now I've got all the splints off and he's back with his friend! Yay!!

mjgiga, such fluffy chickens! I really like the colors so pretty.

Well I had every intention of giving Oreo a water board refresher today just to make sure he remembered, but it soooooo was not ness. he totally remembers the water board lesson and was suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch a complete gentlemen, and stepped out of my way well before I got close enough to matter. I am hoping this continues to work this well and it will be my first line remedy from now on.
