Just takes one time as far as I know. But if you want fertile eggs out of her you'll have to leave him in with her. Eggs take....like 24 hrs? to form and he'll have to have bred her within the right time frame of when the egg is forming.
No worries, none of those will happen here.No!!!,... for heavens sake!, ...no naked neck cochins!
Wow, never knew that. That is very interesting.Single comb, peacomb or rosecomb? it all plays a role...
Single comb could be up to 21 days.
Peacomb 10-14 days,
Rosecomb 7-10 days
if you have an agressive breeder could be shorter but not gauranteed.
I do have two OEGB chicks and a bantam Amercauna. They are fast little boogers. When I was changing their water yesterday morning the Ameraucana got out and as I was catching it one of the OEGBs disapeared. I couldn't find her anywhere in the garage. She wasn't cheeping and the dog couldn't sniff her out. I left out some water on the floor just in case she was in there somewhere. Tonight DH and I were walking around the yard and there she was coming out of the hostas in the flower bed. It took a long time to catch her. She kept slipping back under the plants and she wasn't screaming her head off. She is finally home with her buddies and she should be named Dora the Explorer.No.. No.. No.. You need Rosecomb Bantams.. Blue to be specific.. I have sooooooooooooo many you really really really need some... No NN stay bantam... they eat less..
A lot of the Breeders on the Cochin thread eat their extra birds. They say they are suprizingly meaty under all those feathers.Even when I kept the big birds I ordered Cornish x for meat birds when I wanted them.. 6-7 weeks of feed for a 7lb bird is hard to beat. Bantams can and do lay very well. just takes a few more eggs to make things, eye candy is all in what a person likes. Personally I like not feeding 1 Ton of feed a month or more.. It is very nice having cut back.
We all know I raise mine for different reasons than many on here, and will not dispute that for a second, but they are still very usefull animals.
Ahhhh, single combed aggressive breeder.. give it one week.
