Actually dealing with heat exhaustion today. We went and got water yesterday at the well and moved it into the garage and it was so hot but I wasn't sweating at all and started to chill. My husband put me to bed in our very cool room but I was still up with a headache and chills and nausea most of the night. I finally ate something for lunch today. I'm sitting here watching the swimming on the Olympics and thinking how wonderful it would be to be floating along with them.

Are you talking about the well that is East of Salt Plains nearly alongside the hiway? I used to stop there years ago and fill my water jug up when I was in the area. Seemed like there was always a line of people there too.

I was told once by a teacher they call it school bus parenting... It doesnt matter how you raise your kids they will pick up the attitude of the kids around them. I know I raised my kids right. My older ones(over the age of 18) are getting it together, but My two teens still in the house I would love to strangle most days. They are polite and helpful around others but at home they have a mouth that I would have got the fire beat out of me for... And then the ultimate, you cant touch me...... Just makes me mad!!!! I love my kids to death, but hate the teenagers that they are right now.

Most teenagers think their parents are stupid until they get to be age 24 or so. Then they realize how smart their parents are (and were). When my husband was about 12, he threatened to call DHS and his Mom started packing his bags. He ask why she was doing that and she said' "They won't let you stay here if it is as bad as you say." He changed his tune. What helped me with attitudes in the classroom was to remind myself that they are practicing being independent and having their own opinions. And they need a lot of practice! Most of what comes out of their mouthes is said before they even think it. My hat goes off to you parents!

Congrats on your anniversary. Glad they were able to get you going again. I realized a long time ago that fresh air and the great outdoors were hazardous to my health.


Still no idea what happened to our poultry judge. I think he's a younger guy who maybe just forgot and another parent thinks he's a really elderly fellow that might have suffered a heat related mishap.

I'm right. We managed to harass a poor guy who did market/production type judging awhile back into doing it, so thankfully we were able to continue the show. Was a big letdown though and had definite repercussions in the outcomes. DD's Silkies got red because he thought the shredding was feather damage. We'd also been really looking forward to having a real judge. The fellow that was nice enough to fill in has expressed an interest in getting licensed as a poultry judge, so maybe there will ultimately be a great outcome.



Those temps look miserable. My lawn is dead and trees all over are turning brown. The birds so far have weathered it well except for the meaties. We lost 7 last week. Processing is set for Wed. and can't possibly get here soon enough.

At least the show didn't get cancled even though there were a few hicups. Hopefully the kids will understand about the placings and kuddos go out to the gent that stepped in to help, that is the Fancy showing it's best side.


Went to the world of wally and bought me a cheapo home stereo. Sounds good but it won't rattle the windows or vibrate the walls. Need to see if I still have some big speakers that have built-in amps.

After spending millions of dollars and trying everything under the sun to eradicate it the discovery was made that goats love Kudzu. If heavily grazed they will kill it off too.

For those that don't know Kudzu is known as the vine that ate the South. It was imported for erosion control and kinda got out of hand because it grows fast and the waxy coating on the leaves prevent it from being killed by herbacides.

Cows love Kudzu too, and can keep it heavily graized as well.

I have a friend that fenced in about a 50 foot circle of it in the middle of his new pasture.

They ate every bit of what was growing wild and got fat.

Now he has a beautiful field of grass.

Then they kept the fenced in area trimmed of any new growth. It grows over a foot a day

and gives the cows a daily treat.

There is an ivy like vine that grows around here that has thorns as bad as a Blackberry. When we were cutting cedar over by Mulhall I made my base cuts in a huge cedar in the bottom of a canyon that was covered with this Ivy. The tree started creaking so I laid down my saw and went to make my exit. As the tree leaned it tightened the vine on the back side, where I had to make my exit, and I ended up having to go through that stuff. Took Teva the better part of an hour to pick the stray thorns out of me and I looked like I had gotten into a fight with a weedeater!

Yep... I had one try threatening me with calling DHS... I started laughing at him. He could not figure out why... I said well either they find that you are the one out of hand and they will put you in juvenille detention or they will agree with you that life is rough... Either way you wont be here and there is no telling what it will be like where you land.... He hasnt tried it again.

I was out watering the chickens and I picked up my little NN baby chick and I am 95% sure she carries the scaleless gene. I didn't get any pics b/c I didn't have the camera, and the legs are still very tiny and hard to see the scales, but I am almost certain I saw a distinct lack of scales.
