***OKIES in the BYC III ***

My daughter and I were sitting out feeding the girls some meal worms and all of a sudden they went scattering and my silkies hit the ground. There was a huge hawk that swept down from behind us and tried to get them. It scared the lving tar out of us!! Two days ago our 8 week old kitten went missing and I'm wondering if this is the culprit, she never left our backyard so I can't imagine anything else got her. Now I am scared to let the girls free range and they are so not going to be happy about that! Wondering if I shoot at it with a bb gun if it would scare it off. I hate leaving them locked up in their coop.

NoCityBoy, that chick is beautiful!!! Definitely Lemon Blue and if I had to guess this early with that size comb I'd say male. Wow!
JensHens-congrats on all those ribbons!

Shooting or shooting at a raptor is a federal crime, just fyi.

I have a lot of Mockingbirds out here, they Devil the Hawks so much that they don`t stay long.

Saw this beautiful guy on CL, thought I would share.

Maybe if you could find a starter pistol that just makes noise it would work but don't acutally shoot at them. It's not just a misdemeanor crime. It's a federal one. Big deal. I imagine that is exactly what happened to your kitten though. Sorry. Owls will also take cats. We've lost a couple that way, so while we have 'barn" cats, our pets are kept inside. If there isn't a food source for a while, the hawk should move on. They winter and nest in Oklahoma though so you might need to invest in building a covered run.

Well, our missing chicken showed up this morning. Yippee! I hate to lose any of my girls, but my barred rocks are so sweet and they love people besides the fact that they are great layers. Gonna have to clip wings today.

That's kind of what this kitten was, it was a rescue that my daughter talked me into taking in. It's poor little head had been scalped by something so we've had it since it was four weeks old and had it on antibiotics and it was healing nicely. My cats stay indoors, this one I figured we would do the best we could, I didn't want another inside cat but looks like I faile at keeping it safe.

I let the girls run around for about 30 minutes this morning and put them up when I came back inside. I guess a little time to run around is better than none. They do have an outside pen attached to their coop. I'm glad you guys told me it's illegal, I don't want to be shooting at anything that will get me in trouble! Not that I could or would hit it. Sometimes us citiots (as we are so affectionately referred to

) don't know these things!

I'm glad to hear that, I was sad for you last night when I read it was missing!
