Okies in the BYC The Original

I hope to see some fellow Okies at the Blanchard Auction today. We just took some white guineas chicks, some rabbits, buff orp chicks, 2 turken roos, and some white rock chicks there and dropped them off. It's a nice new Vo-Ag building in Blanchard, just a mile South of Hwy 62 on County Line Road. The auction starts at 5 pm.

I have a question... have been going through alot with the chickens recently and now might have another problem. where I live the dirt id really heavy clay. We have had a lot of rain in the last 3 days and the dirt in my run is pretty saturated. I have been reading on BYC that that can lead to Coccidiosis. It usuall dries out in a couple of days after the rain.. but jeez i don't need that on top of everything else. I thought that the grower feed was supposed to sort of immunize them to that.... If any of you have an idea or thought please let me know...

Thanks

WARNING VENT!!!!!

Well back from Blanchard, things were going pretty cheap tonight I BBed ( Bought Back) a pair of NICE cochins that would not bring 25 ( last month my older RIR brought 11) and had laying pullets go for 3.25. and then I went out to my truck and some kid had thrown rocks at it there is just a couple of paint chip but I can not stand irresposible parents. We had my 5 year old and 2 year old with us due to babysitter being in hospital Thursday and Friday. However my kids do not leave an area greater then my arm can grab ever there was 1 youngg girl hanging by her knees off the back of the bleachers. There still seems to be the kid problem but I believe there was at least 1 staff out with birds at all time so they choose to vandilize cars instead thetruck next to me also had rocks on the hood and its windshield was cracked I sure hope it was not from the kids. I was hot when I saw rocks all over hood and roof of my truck problem is the kids but even more so there irresponsible parents that do not watch them. That a kid thinks it is alright to do this they had to learn it from someone Just more parents teaching their children to be irresponsible only 2 purchases for me tonight. A doe and an egg turner. Sorry for the run ons and spelling I am beyond tired and have a road trip tomorrow to get my goats so off to bed for me.

Kasi, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at the Blanchard auction with unsupervised children ... it's so unfortunate that there are irresponsible parents allowing this. It sounds like the auctioneers could use some volunteers to patrol the parking lot.

I agree the prices were terribly low at the auction. I was surprised to see so many people there and the selection of birds and rabbits was great. Unfortunately, I think there were more sellers than buyers. Maybe it was because of the weather or because the State Fair is going on now? We were intending to bring more birds than we did but it was raining when we took them. I'm now glad that we didn't. Let's hope that next month's auction will be better. Oh, and they will begin selling twice a month beginning in October ... the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month.

And before ya'll chastise me for posting his name go to Feathersite and look up NNs, he is also the Sec. of the National Naked Neck Breeder's Society and the feller that got us our start on quality NNs many years ago.

Thank you for the reply. The name is familar. Ill look him up, thanks a ton. Just bought a Silkie hen who had 3 chicks. Only brought one chick home though, it has 5 toes on 1 foot and 4 on the other (its mixed breed). weird huh?
