Cammie, Glad you are back in the chicken biz.
Does your Dh still have cattle?

Why don't you have him build you a coop out on the cattle ranch and then you could go visit your birds whenever you wanted.

Woot!

Yes, they do come in standard. I don't think Ideal sells bantam Sultans (assuming your chicks came from Ideal 'cause that's where Atwoods usually gets them). However, for standard birds they sure are small. I lost my little hen this summer to the heat.

I still have the rooster though.

I understand that! I haven't been well this week, and went through half of my morning thinking it was Monday.

Buckyguy, ya he does still have the cattle. We had discussed it, but the lady who actually owns the land lives near the only safe place to put a hen house. We'd feel bad with them being that close, and I would worry not having them close to my house.

Chickngurl, the chickie did come from Ideal. I looked at their website, it didn't have Sultans listed under Standards. But its bigger than the Cochin bantams, who are usually the larger bantams in the groups we get. So i don't know, we'll just have to wait and see!

Ok I REALLY hope that's NOT the date for the Shawnee show. I'm already going to miss Chickenstock, I really don't want to miss Shawnee.

Sept 6th I met a lady named OKCARLA and her husband and purshased some Silkies from her. She drove along ways to get these chicks to me and I appreciate it since I'm disable and don't go off much. These are some of the best chicks I ever brought from any body and they all are alive and never lost any in two weeks I have another 70 plus feather legged chic's being shipped this Wednesday and I wish I could have got all of them from OKCARLA what pictuers I seen she has some of the best. The first picture is the last group that we raised and it time to replace them with some fancy looking chic's

coondog74017, Thanks for the kind words! I hope you and your wife enjoy the silkies ... they should turn out really pretty for you. They'll eventually get much more fluff and should get big puffy heads, too. They seem to enjoy attention more than most chickens and actually make great pets too. It was great meeting you both!

countyroad1330, I'm so glad you talked your husband into letting you have a chicken!

Hello everyone. We've been so busy with the critters & chickens and work, that it's difficult to get a chance to stop & say hello. I'm actually at work right now (mandatory overtime) but it's slow here, and luckily I have access to the internet and Backyardchickens!!!!

coondog, glad to see your getting new chicks! Carla and her hubby bought me my bunny as a suprise wedding gift.
lol.png
They are some of the sweetest people I've ever met, so you know they take care of their birds!

Carla, glad to hear from you again! Clark said I could at least keep it until its bigger. But after however many months of him sittin in the garage with me talkin to it, I think he'll let me keep it. *ha*

I'm worried about the chick being alone. It seems just happy as can be! But its only form of 'entertainment' is chasing gnats that visit its little pen. And in the winter (if hubby does let me keep it), its going to need warmth. But I'm almost afraid that getting another chick would be pushing my luck. I guess I could get a banded pullet from Atwoods. Ok so I'm talking outloud, but any advice or input would be great!

watch out for Atwoods......We bought 7 "banties" in the spring...........................only one, the roo, is a banty

But, so that I can enable the chicken disease......yes, you MUST get another one

Geckomama, oh yes I know what you mean about the mix ups. I work there.

Sometimes I don't think people read what the new groups are before they unload them. Most of the banties we get are OEG's seems like. I live in town, can't get too crazy with the chicken disease. *ha*

I know just get a bunch of those free real estate papers like at the grocery store and tactfully place them in the house. What would a couple of nice well kept hens be compared to a move to the country!
