Sorry we had to leave so early but Teva had to get up at 4am this morning to go to work. We had a great time and got to see a lot of old friends and meet a few new ones too.

A big thanks goes out to those that first hatched this little get together and I hope there are more to come.

Hi all! Sounds like POOP was fun!
I'd posted my intro on newbies board and just now got around to posting here. We are brand new to chickens! It all started last month when my 8 yr old daughter chose to join 4H. She's still a cloverbud. Anyways she wanted an ag project like her friends and chose chickens. We currently have 6 black tailed white japanese, 5 light brahma bantams, and 5 rhode island reds in the brooder. they came from Ideal (wish chicken breeders were as easy to find as rabbit breeders) and are coming up on 4 wks old.
Some of the japanese and rir are starting to sit on top of the feeder. How do you know when to put them in the coop? How do you know when it's ok to give treats? The brahmas hate to be handled right now and I thought treats might help, but I'm afraid to give them yet.
Are Japanese too delicate for OK winters? How do you know what and when to vaccinate?

I hope you don't mind the questions. I'm just glad to have found you guys!

I have some japs and they do fine with winter as long as they have good shelter. On the other questions, I'll let the more experienced answer. Welcome to the Okie section of BYC!!!

Since these are going to be show birds I would recommend them be raised in places similar to rabbit hutches for their own safety and to keep their feathering nice and show ready.

as far as vaccinations there are none needed, most backyard flocks are very healthy birds. It's when you overcrowd and keep birds under constant stress that you have health problems. Like with the commercial operations.

I show birds as does Gracefullbantams (Grace) and many others here on this thread. I will try to work up a longer response later and post it.

We are going to go to Woodward. Just a NBHA jackpot. I haven't been able to ride as much as I'd like with a 2 1/2 month old baby, so I'm going to places with low entry fees. lol

What a great event; good people, wholesome family atmosphere, great facility, good weather, good food, lots of poultry, and wonderful auctions and raffle! Sorry I couldn't stay for the other entertainment, I'm bushed today. But it's a goood tired!

I especially loved it that the children were welcomed and given lots of attention. They are our hope and our legacy.

I'm in awe of the people who planned and carried out this POOPS! I know an event like this takes a lot of planning and am grateful to those of you who put so much into it.

I can now put faces to quite a few names, although my wretched short-term memory may not allow me to retain many of them. Hoping to have begun friendships that will last many years.

I was thrilled at how well my Silkies and Showgirls were received and am glad there are at least several out there who are interested in them. They are delightful little chickens.

I forgot to tell those of you who bought my birds that my flock is NPIP certified. I also forgot to tell most of you that most of the Silkies and Showgirls (except for the smallest ones, and a couple that Carla bought) were treated with Ivermectin Friday.
