Teach what kind of D'Uccle you have?? I am looking for some pearl and some more Mille Fleur!!! You do have some very raised kids! But I also have to mention everyones kids that I have met on the Okie thread are really well mannered and always seem very sociable, so here is to all of us Okie parents keeping the Okie tradition alive!!!!

I need to cut down on my silkie and showgirls. I have between 80 and 100, and they really take a lot of time and feed. If anyone is interested in them, I'll probably be asking $10 -15 for them, 'though I paid $25 and more for some. The rest are my own youngsters. Most will be 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 years old. Silkies mature late, so that isn't old at all. There should be blue, black, gray and partridge. They are fairly good quality birds and most would do well in small shows, but won't take honors in shows like Shawnee unless they are the only ones in their group (some have).

Q , a lot of my chicken acqusitions have been because I found some good birds at a good price.
What I meant was that the next time I was gonna to activly search for a breed and buy them it would be light Brahamas.
You got a great deal on the Favroelles. They are gorgeous birds.

Al, Jared asked me just the other day
"why would a well diggers behind be so cold?
I am gonna send him to you so you can explain it.

Al, im with ya on the mutt hatching. From spring to now me and skyla have hatched over 200 mutts and some of them are some beuty's. I dont think I have a favorite breed and couldnt choose. I have several that I love though so in no specific order

Orps in bbs and lavendar (bantam and lf). Rocks in bantam and lf. Silkies in any colour.

Anyone know where I fella could get some show quality white rock bantam leggs?

First off, I don't want any of your birds. Most of them are FOO's.
I am pretty much anti-FOO. As far as me owning them. They are fine for those that like them.
Decide what your goals are. Why do you want each breed, each bird. Write down why you like them. Even if it is as simple as I like their color or I just like them.
For instance, later when you are trying to decide whether to keep Marans or Frizzles, you can compare your reasons.
If this is an accurate list, then it should give you a starting place to where you can cut back. (if that is your goal)
You have to consider things like how many you have of each or if you just have hens and no roo or vice-versa. If you do have just one sex then how hard will it be to find a mate and is it worth your time and effort to do so. If it is something you really like and want then hang on to them until you find more.
So if you are keeping the Mutts for eggs then decide if you want the frizzles. Or the doo clays (d'uccle) or the Sebrights.
If you decide to keep them all then work at getting each breed built up to what you want.

It is very hard to have a specific breeding program with just one or two hens. Its even harder with no roosters.
I have built breed flocks from pairs and trios but it takes awhile, sometimes years.
I started my Campine flock with a pair. I now have eight. My biggest problem with building them is that I have hatched and raised about 80-90 percent roos in the last three years.
It seems like every time I have just about given up on something an opportunity has presented itself to either sell them or buy more.
If the Welsummers ever get low on your list let me know.
I know a guy that likes them.

Monty I gotta say that I cant put them into a favorites list, but I am downsizing temporarily so that I can gain a couple more breeds for the weekend, did you see the Light Brahamas in the sale room?? I am getting a trio out of one of the trios that were for sale!!

Hey Al,

I see where Terry Britt/Steve Jones did OK at Shawnee. By my count, they have 7 champions or reserve champions. One of their White Rocks took the Americans. I wonder if it was that cock on the end toward the center, or the hen in the 4th cage down the same row.

That's pretty cool.

The whole mutt layer thing started when I was testing some eggs for that Bator I built, and just put in a pile of fertilized eggs from the main coop. I think I had the most fun watching my DW & DD watch the hatch, when they wouldn't let me get rid of all of them they kept the coolest looking ones. Now that they are grown they are very nice looking and lay like crazy, plus they are pretty laid back and let you jack with them. That is what started the Foo-Foo craze, she thought what would happen if we hatched a bunch of Hairdo mutts, so I am letting her roll with it, after all what can it hurt and it keeps her interested in chickens. The Evil plan I hatched is working perfectly LOL.
