Happy Christmas everyone,

Jason let me sleep in this morning and I must have needed the rest as I didnt wake up until 9:30am
By the time I did get up and get moving Jason and the kids were bringing in the house one of our Naragansett Tom's. He appears worse than he did yesterday, we suspect him and the other Tom were sparring and well he is not making out to be the winner of these matches. Have him in a Large Rubbermade tote at the moment and he is sleeping, something I am sure he needs.

Once we were all inside we opened up the gifts, and the kids squealed with joy when they both opened up boxes containing the wii and wii fitness +.... They were very very happy. ON a silly note though, last night I took it upon myself to write on those cardboard tubes the christmas wrap comes around in " The Ultimate Fight Dad Stick", and I attached 2 $1 bills at the end of each side. Re wrapped up the tube with left over paper.. and gave it to our son... He unwraps it and was like what is it? then his sister read the words to him and he was like cool and starts hitting dad... It was funny!

Merry Christmas, Okies!

Our Christmas hatch is doing well. All the chickens in outside pens survived yesterday's storm, and they've got plenty of warm bedding in case it gets colder. The heated water dishes are working well, but I've not found a way to keep the chickens from standing in them. Do I need to be concerned about frozen chicken feet?

Jeannie,
Sir Lancelot has the right idea - a nap
Got everything fed and watered. Was surprised that there were 18 inch snow drifts on the floor of the rabbit barn. The sides don't go all the way to the bottom, for ventilation, and somehow the snow managed to come in that 4 inch gap the lenghth of the barn - even though the outer wall is less than 1 foot from another barn.

Son tried to make a snowman - the snow is so dry that it won't pack. Now how silly is that! I guess that explains why it drifted so badly.

Hubby is scraping paths across the chicken yard, so we don't have to tromp through drifts to get to the various pens. He is delighted for an excuse to use the snow blade on his tractor. One of the neighbors asked him to scrape the road down by their house, where the snow drifted - so he is doing that as well.

My insulated Carhart overalls and my heavy Carhart jacket, along with a hat and a sweatshirt were too hot after I shoveled snow away from the chain link fence in the back yard, so I could feed the dog and my laying flock. Had to take off the jacket or burn up. The overalls were nice though, because they got soaked to the knees and my jeans stayed dry beneath them.

Hubby found a polish hen wandering around in the snow yesterday, so he put her in the barn. She was happy to see me when I went in there to get feed for everyone else. I poured her a dish of fresh water and suspect she will elect to stay in the barn for awhile.

Poco - love the picture of the two chickens peaking out of the blue ????
Maybe someone else will have a suggestion regarding frozen chicken feet. I had that problem last year, when I had a heat lamp above the water dish. I don't think anyone froze their feet, but they did keep the water dish dirty.

Merry Christmas to all.

We didn't ever get our tree put up, so last night Lauren was crying because there was no tree. We had made plans to surprise the kids by putting it up after they went to bed, and that it what we did. At 10:00 last night DH and I were putting up the tree and placing the presents. We got to bed sometime around 1:00. Lauren was up at 7:30 and was so excited about the tree that she had to come wake us up. We opened presents and everyone was excited about the gifts I picked out for them. Afterwards, we had breakfast and then went to shoveling. We had 3 foot drifts in the feed bunks for the cattle. We had to clear them out so that the poor cows could eat. The birds stayed locked in the coops all day yesterday and were excited to come out today. They didn't even hesitate about jumping into the snow. They have been playing in it all day. All of my birds are under a year old, so this is their first snow experience. I made homemade pizza for lunch and am about to get Christmas dinner started. We are having turkey, glazed ham, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, deviled eggs, gravy, and cranberry sauce. I have to drive to work at 4:00 in the morning and the roads are still covered here. I guess I will be taking the pickup instead of my car. It has 4 wheel drive and my car doesn't handle bad weather very well. It is looking to be a great day. I hope everyone stays warm and enjoys the day.

Boy I wish had a camera on me about an hour ago. Our smallest cat Belladonna thought it would be fun to chase something out onto the frozen pond. She was way out there. Then whatever it was started (blew?) back toward the shore and she started running after it. It must have been moving fast because she was just a-movin'.

Only her feet wouldn't stay under her little body. She was slipping and sliding all over the place, feet going out at all angles. I swear it took her forever to do ten feet. I guess I could have had made it to house in time to get the camera, it took her so long, but I was laughing too hard. I have seen a lot of funny things out here on our little place, but that had to be about the funniest. Definitely a YouTube moment.

Who knew farming would be this much fun?

Hope everyone is having a nice, safe holiday.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

My Grandma, and one of my sister's families have already left... so we are down to two families in this house (and two families fit much better!)

Beth, I'm glad you made it home safely! And I'm glad you had such a great little vacation. I am seriously feeling a bit of envy that you got to go to Betsy's place, and I didn't

Good evening everyone hope everyone had a great Christmas, didnt have to work as long as I thought and actually got to spend most of Christmas with my family. Must say that it was exciting, the meal was great , but the most entertaining part was when my brother was trying to back out of my sisters driveway and then his truck slid and down the hill it went, although it is 4 wheel drive he couldnt get it out and it is stuck in the brush down a ice covered hill so it will be a while before he gets it out!!
It gets better one of my nephews friends came over to get him and pulled in the driveway well he tried to back out as well, he didnt go down the hill but he did nearly take out the fire hydrant, so it was cheap entertainment on my part but not so for the others1!!
