Okie welcome, I too am relativly new but have found it easy to make myself at home in this group, do you have any Red Dorkings for sale or will you in the near futare? Might even consider eggs if I can get a hen setting at the right time. Lynn

Greybear 23.

I will probably try to hatch all the eggs I get from my pair of Red Dorkings until I have at least 50. I have around 10 now. I just have a pair of adults, so wouldn't have but a few eggs at a time. By this Fall or next spring, I should have plenty of eggs. I hope!

The Red Dorkings have become my favorite of all chickens.

Okie, can you put me on a list for eggs, you will need to contact me when ready ahead of time to make sure I have the funds available and hopefully a way to hatch them or I would be interested in chicks also, my email is [email protected] Thanks, Lynn

Are button quail as easy to hatch and raise as coturnix quail? I raised coturnix quail a few years ago and considered trying to raise bobwhites, until I read that the bobwhites are a challenge to hatch and raise. I enjoyed watching the coturnix quail however and have been considering getting some more of them or some button quail. I saw some button quail in a pet shop a few years ago and they were cute as bugs ears.

Since I'm a newbie here; would like to add my .02 worth. Am a trans plant now living in S. W. MO. Welcome Oldmoroo I live just about 12 miles west of Pwnee, glad to have you, where do you live now, I love the Eureka Springs area of Ark and Branson MO area, do you have chickens now, what kind, have any pictures to share? always interested from input and wisdom of the past generations, Lynn

I have 2-4 hives. I started the winter with one very strong hive and 4 others that weren't very big. When I checked them on a pretty day in January, 4 hives still had bees - that didn't appreciate being disturbed without the courtesy of some smoke first. I will see what makes it through the winter before I declare how many hives I have.

Oklahoma has a state beekeeper association that meets twice a year, in the Spring and Fall. There are also organized groups of beekeepers that meet all over the state. The group that meets monthly in Guthrie would probably be the closest group to you, although there is also a huge group that meets monthly in Tulsa.

Bees are incredible creatures and even in the years that I leave most of the honey on the hives for the bees, I do enjoy their social structure and the increased pollination of my fruit trees.

You are correct, it is a very relaxing hobby. I have been facinated by honey bees since I was in the first grade - which was a VERY long time ago.

Check on the Oklahoma State Beekeepers website under "services" to see if any beekeepers have identified your county as one in which they want to provide pollination services. You might also check with the president of one of the beekeeper organizations close to you - such as the Northeast Oklahoma Beekeeper Association out of Tulsa or the Northwest Beekeeper Association that meets twice a year in Enid. If you have some acreage and some crops on which bees thrive, you shouldn't have any problem finding a beekeeper who would be willing to work something out with you.

The website for the Oklahoma State Beekeepers is www.okbees.org

Poultry and Bees - I am not sure how easy the buttons are to raise...I am working on my second bought hatch...I learned that the little beggars can drown in a thimbal from the first hatch...this one is going much better...only raised three out of the first one no eggs yet...I do have coturnix and my mice and rats are impressed with their fertility! If you get a hankering holler...I am sure we can work something out...if nothing else come to the POOP fest and we could lie to each other!

spotted owl...that is bad...funny but bad...

I am gone...just spent the last hour calming down my oldest...he will putting one of his goats on the truck after the county show tomorrow...hard on little guys but helps them grow and learn...I hope
