The Attwoods in Lawton now has their chicks, I even saw some NN there, I really had to hold back from getting them, they look really cool as chicks. $ 1.59 ea for Pullets & 1.29 for straight run.

so right now a few would be perfect for me!

Hi there! I'm new to the group and don't have any chickens YET, but hat's all gonna change soon!
I'm in Moore, OK......so add another to your list!!!!

Hi! Welcome to the Okie thread!!! We used to live in Moore.

Do you live in what's left of the rural part of Moore, or do you live in the city?

I had to go over to the Kentucky site and check out the cartoon at post # 5973 - it really is cute. I wish I knew the technology to post it over here. I wonder if Kentucky is having an electrical blackout. They have had very few posts today - very unusual.

Ronnie, if you want to be a typical macho guy and decide you will just tough it out, please do the right thing by your family and make sure you have lots of life insurance to help pay the bills and put the kids through college.

GO GET A TETNUS SHOT! You only have to get one every ten years to avoid rigor mortis.

MAN ! I was with ya til you said 'grits'.

-Stimp-

Stimp - there may be some exceptions, but I have come to the conclusion you can tell on what side of the Mason-Dixon line and maybe on what side of the Mississippi River someone was raised, by whether someone likes grits and how they eat them. My Dad was raised in Kansas and Indiana and he always put salt, pepper and butter on his grits. A favorite treat for breakfast when we were growing up was fried grits, with maple syrup on top (Dad didn't put pepper in those). On the other hand, my DH was born and raised in Oklahoma and he likes his grits with milk and sugar.

My favorite ways to eat eggs are scrambled, and hard boiled eggs made into deviled eggs -particularly if someone else will go to the work of making the deviled eggs and just let me eat them.

We took 12 Boer goats and one rabbit to the Jones auction last night and I ended up bringing home two steer calves. I would like to take some rabbits and chicks to the auction in Jones tomorrow night, but don't want to come home with more than I take. Of course, if there were some runner ducks there, that could be a good thing.

Carla, be sure to let the auctioneer know that your older birds have been NPIP tested. If I take any chickens, I plan to put a note on them to that effect and tell the auctioneer. I think if we all start mentioning that, it will help the price of the birds we sell.

Yeah, that is the problem with life insurance. Someone has to die before it can be collected and unless we designate our estate as the beneficiary and set up a trust of some sort, we don't get to control how it is spent. Sounds like you have enough to take care of immediate needs for the family - but raising kids is expensive and high school and college expenses will use a huge chunk of that.

ETA: Your family will always get more benefit from having you around than from receiving your life insurance, so GET THE TETNUS SHOT!

Do you have any extra adult hens, too?

Doubleostud is first in line for a couple I have, and I may sell a few pullets that should begin laying any day. It is sure hard to pry a silkie from me .... they are so adorable!

And working hard to pry you away from them I have been.
