Unfortunately, that is often true of local produce. The big farms can raise it and ship it more cheaply than local farmers can grow it. I still prefer to buy local produce when it is available however. Some things, like tomatoes and sweet corn, are never as good when they have to be picked before they are totally ripe and shipped.

UPDATE: 5-15-2010
I am trying to make a list of our current Okie users.
As I best as I can figure, these are people that have posted in the last month or so.
If I have missed anyone for any reason and left your name off please let me know ASAP!
We have around three hundred names on the original list and I know I have missed many there as well. So please let me know so I can get everyone on the lists.

I found it on the Oklahoma homesteading group - she is so fortunate that she wasn't injured. Being on I40 within a football field distance of the Love's store as it was blown away by the tornado . . . . she is very fortunate

Thanks for telling me - I have not been reading my emails very regularly - something about my addiction to BYC seems to keep me busy

We took a cue from Al and burned a couple of big piles of yard trash--branches, small saplings, etc. Today. Was a really good day for it, and it helped a lot!

Silkie chicks hatching under Moms, and brooded indoors. Getting some pretty nice ones, including two or three LAVENDERS! Additionally, my little lavender pulet laid her first egg today, and the roo is also a lavender. A first for us! Hoping to get lots of lavenders from several different pairings this year--at last! Also working on Isabel Porcelains, and have eleven babes so far. Exciting season!

Now, if I could only get the new coops/pens finished. This rain has really put a crimp in my plans. I'm realllllllly slow as it is.

Happy Birthday Gerald / eggman !!!!!!!!!!!

but I was gainin on him.

Still burning junk so I didn't want to leave it unattended, plus Laura is not feeling well so I thought I would grace her with my Manly presents to make her feel better, not sure it's working though she fell asleep shortly after

. The DD went to hang out with that boy who's been sniffin around her, so I may just get to have a nice slow and relaxing evening.
The bator is cooking my eggs just fine so I am excited on the prospect of a good hatch.

How you doing tonite Krong? Done any caveman activities today? I put the steps in the pool and got in to put the pad underneath them. The water wasn't too bad. Hope we get to use it more this year. Last year we only got in a few times as the water never really stayed warm.
Counted new chicks in the brooder and have about 35 that hatched this week. Also set two hens back this week. Going to have to go panhandle on the sidewalk to get feed money!lol.Cause as anyone knows you can't get rid of any babies till they get 3/4 grown so you know what they are going to look like!

I thought I was out of the chick bussiness until I got home an realized that I have set partridge cochins. There are at least a dozen or more. Good thing because I only kept 4 & sent all the rest to POOPS, one didn't seem to like it here so it flew into the back yard & was lunch for me dog!

Well got back from my sons graduation. It only took him 7 years to graduate from college. Now maybe he will learn what work is.HA HA This is one of the sons alot of you have not met. He thinks dad is crazy.

Remember this saturday May 22nd at Blanchard the poultry supplies consignment continues. Feeders, waterers, cages, feed pans, auto water cups and they are still digging.
