Sounds like everybody had some good results at the show, Kudo's to Ya'll. Sorry I missed Blanchard last night I really wanted to go but the DW suggested we stay in and watch movie's and snuggle................. Sheeesh what a terrible evening hehehehehe. Don't know yet what I want to do today, may just go jack with my birds and do some tiddying up, maybe throw something on the Barbi.

Congratulations to Dalton and Levi ! Was this their first chicken show?

It is nice that you met some of the finest youth in Oklahoma, our BYC youth who show chickens

Looks like y'all had a very full vehicle traveling to the show in Eufaula.

Modernman said there were about 200 birds, look like y'all had 1/8 of those and Grace was taking a lot of birds as well. It would be interesting to know of the total birds at the show, how many were shown by youth affiliated with BYC.

Sooner, be sure to let Madison know we are proud of her for showing at Eufaula. Looks like there was some stiff competition from among the BYC youth, before she even had to compete against youth whose folks haven't found BYC - yet

So, how many birds did y'all transport to Eufaula? I am a bit curious about the total number of birds and how many might have been shown by BYC affilitated youth.

Yea Jason forgot that when our neighbors dog killed some of our layers(we were getting good egg counts daily) we went ahead and order some white and black Giants and a few other chickens that I cant remember... that will be here this week... so yea more chickens... ha ha ha

This morning I cleaned out my larger brooder that was manufactured less than 10 years ago and realized two things
1) the screen bottom isn't metal, it is heavy plastic squares, so it won't rust - unlike my brooders that are more than 25 years old that have rusty screen bottoms as a floor above the droppings tray.

2) my hive tool that I use for prying apart the sections of bee hives when the bees have stuck things together, makes a wonderfully effective scraping tool for the screen bottom of the brooder and it didn't take me forever to get all the caked on feed and poo scraped off, like it usually does. One end is flat and the other end is curved, both ends are about 2 inches wide with a sharp edge. Very handy.

So, does anyone know a place to get very heavy duty plastic screen with the squares about 5/8 inch - so that I can replace my rusted out screens in the older brooders? I haven't checked the hatchery or poultry supply catalogs yet - but think that shipping could be more expensive than the screen, because of the size.. . . . unless it is something carried by a vendor that sells at a poultry show in Oklahoma and they would bring it to a show.

edited because I am not sure about the size of the squares. 4 of them appear to be larger than 1 inch square, but less than 2 inches square

@ poultryand bees

Good afternoon! It sounds like you are pretty busy these days... with brooders and all.
(from reading your post) I wish we could help but we are newbies at this baby chick thing.

We've just hatched a few new hatchlings from P.O.O.P.S. and are in need of a Brooder.
We have a new cat and we just cant trust her as of yet...

- so we want to make sure they are nice and secured.

We also have been busy with our new Llama (Tina). She was a victim of the Tornado and is a bit skittish so we are babying her.

How are things in your neck-of-the-woods?
