Plywood gets painted, hardwood gets stained and sealed. I mean why pay a premium price for hardwood just to cover it up?
The cabinets weren't that expensive. They are prefabs from Lowe's.
That being the case they are most likely "Oak grained" particle board. I'd have to take a look to be sure though. Lowes doesn't sell the high end stufff from what I've seen. Just stuff that looks like it.
Morning all : How are all my fine friends today, I am taking the day off because there's nothing much going on today mostly just job site clean up and a few dump run's and the guy's get to do that LOL. I am trying to plan a nice slow fun weekend hope it works out.
We have a medical issue with DD Alyssa and she went in for a doctors exam yesterday. She has been unable to smell since she was 3, I mean she smells nothing at all and it has never been an issue with her but she finally relented to our constant nagging to get treatment. so we took her in... the Doctor thinks she may have a Brain Tumor that is pressing against her Olefactory nerve he said in his 30 yr's he has never seen such a case, so an MRI is scheduled and we are on pin's and needles because it's very scarey to think she has a Tumor and I am just walking around in a daze constantly thinking about it and trying to hide my feelings from her I don't want to scare her too. So in short I am really struggling with this.

Hugs and prayers to you and your family. It is scary to think that a child might have a medical issue. Since she has had this problem for so many years and is otherwise healthy, it is more likely to be an "inconvenience" rather than a "problem" - Keep us posted.
Al, it is good that you have an "easy" day today. Hopefully, you can stay cool and go into the weekend feeling more rested than you have been in awhile.
If you are bored tomorrow morning, come on over to Duncan and watch the rabbit show for awhile. I am going to take some Flemish Giants and get some critiques of them.
Not sure what is going on in the morning but I certainly may if I have time, I do plan on going to the Fletcher auction later in the day. Is the rabbit show being held at the Duncan fair grounds or another venue ??. Grace also hit's that show right ??.

When it all comes down to it however you will be the one in the kitchen. If you want to paint them go for it. It will be brighter and if you go with a gloss enamel it will be easier to clean.
Well they were painted today with a white high gloss enamel. They really look good. If they get wiped down everyday and as needed, they should stay nice. Heck I will now have a dishwasher, so I could use the extra time not spent washing dishes every night, to clean the cabinets.
I had to put a kitchen in this house 10 years ago and I got the same cabinets, Shavon - Lowe's prefab. Then I had the finishing carpenters fix up the doors so they don't look so much like prefab. I painted them white! Not so bad in my kitchen since I don't cook much, but wiping them down would be a good idea...
Alski! I just got caught up and read about Alyssa's upcoming test. Are they going to be able to get her in very soon to find out what's up? I can only imagine how you must feel - not being able to think of anything else and still having to "keep up appearances" and stay calm while you're freaking out inside. I'll be praying for a quick, easy, painless diagnosis.
