Yes, the rabbit show is at the fairgrounds in Duncan. I don't know whether Grace is showing tomorrow. If so, I will be delighted to see her.

I had considered it, but will definitely not be making it this time.

Hi Everyone
frow.gif

Sorry I get so few chances to post anymore. Just too busy and working too much overtime. I even have to work Saturday again ... during an airshow at the base. I don't even get to go to any auctions this weekend. I'm stuck at work right now.

I just looked at our local News Channel 4 and they had a story on "animal cruelty". I watched the video, and read the story, and read all the comments posted. My opinion, the couple was unfairly targeted. The puppies appear healthy, the chicks that were in the brooder looked fine, and the goats looked fine. Ya'll should see this video & read all the comments, especially the comments from the friend that is defending the family.

Gosh, maybe I'm only a few dead animals away from being arrested

Hi all, been away for a few days (super busy) and dealing with some new chick health issues. Question: Does anyone need a beeeeoutiful GLW roo? I have one that I SO want to keep (hatched March 8th) that will certainly have to leave since he's likely to crow any minute now. I'm happy to send pics. I have some friends who want to caponize him in the hopes that he might not crow, but #1 I SERIOUSLY doubt it will work, #2 it's too dangerous even done in a proper vet setting and I love my boy and #3 I'd rather him go somewhere he can be himself. He's pretty well-mannered (waits his turn in line for breakfast scratch out of my hand) but isn't as friendly as the girls when it comes to jumping on my lap for "scratch my neck" time. All I ask is that he be allowed to live a happy, frying-pan free life. My kids are family first, egg producers second (Yeah...this coming from a chef. I know...)

Thanks!

hi i got your other post.......sorry i keep jumping around. i really need to figure this place out. anyway, will grab more crumbles while at lumber 2 along with the corid. as for the pen they are in.........we are almost done with the permanant coop and pen but they have been temp staying in a dog run with cement bottom. This run was used for my dog that i lost in the fires. i wonder if the soil could have been contaminated by the fires or somthing???? i am grasping at straws as i really can not understand what is happening. They have all been very healthy and no problems at all. no medicated feed and i did have them immunized when i got them. thank you again

Amprolium (Corid) would be your best bet for Cocci with Sulmet running a close second.

There are I believe 27 or 29 different strains of Coccidiosis that affect poultry and it is a species specific organism. There are thousands of different strains of Cocci and it is everywhere, literally.

Feeding medicated feed is a good preventative but is not absolute protection when there are wet and humid conditions and any age of bird can get it, not just chicks.

Having the chicks vaccinated at the hatchery probably doesn't cover Cocci and if it does chances are they do not cover all strains that affect poultry. The vaccinations have changed since I last ordered chicks but at that time all that was offered was Marek's disease.

The advice given earlier here was right on the money and if you can get the Corid things should clear up in a few days.

Rest assured that it was nothing that you have done but the wet weather that we have had that brought on the outbreak.

There is a silver lining however. Once a bird is affected by a strain of Cocci it builds an immunity to it.

you are my kind of people! wish i needed another one, sounds like a sweetheart! post a pic, betcha someone won't be able to resist!

Okarla sorry you are haveing to work so much this year and missing out on so many sales and much needed "quiet time" with your hubby and animals! Yeah its kind of scary sometimes raising critters. One persons ideal of abuse can be so far off that it can put anyone in jeaporady! It always pays to be real cautious of any new people when showing your farm or critters off. Well we will keep praying you get some down time to enjoy your hobbies soo. I want to pick your mind on things you have learned about the fainters so far one of these days when you have more free time.

Artsy how is that goslin doing? Bet he/she is getting big!

Sure a lot of sick critters around. I think all this damp and humid weather is the culprit. Hope it dyes off soon.Didn't think I would ever say that. Spent the day with two older pigeon guys. We flew several lofts of rollers, did some trading and tall tale telling and had a great time. Pigeon people are about as fun to be with as chicken people. I'm getting almost to the overload point on pigeons again. They seem to accumulate so quickly!lol

Hey Mr.Al:hugs just a saying!

Howdy everyone!

Well, my little Polish pullet is still sitting on her hocks, not at all coordinated but she is acting normal...believe it or not! she is eating, drinking and preening and is bright eyed. So strange. She is a very pretty black crested black and white splash baby and very sweet. I hope very much that she recovers from whatever she has...she is such a character.

In the big coop where the laying flock lives, the Delaware hen that was acting strange as well, is better tonight. She still looks kinda rough but she is definitely better. I am so ready for all of these guys to be OVER whatever it is that they have. I miss being able to go out and just hang out with the birds. One thing about treating all of your flock...they become wary of you. I hate it that they don't run at top speed to come see me when I appear at their gate. **SIGH**

This weekend we are going to be building a turkey pen for our turkey poults. They are very good looking turkeys and I can't wait to let them out of their shop brooder pen so they can be REAL birds--OUTSIDE!

I am sad that we have to work on the pen only for one reason...we will miss the Fletcher auction.

But on the other hand...we will get the turkeys out of the shop!

I also have to spend some quality time on the tractor this weekend mowing...takes about 4 hours...UGH!

What is everyone else doing this weekend?

Al--I am sorry that you have scary health issues with your DD. Just to help ease your fears, I work at Saint Anthony hospital in downtown OKC...MRI's are about as safe as you can get--I am betting the reason they are having you sign so many consent papers are 1) your daughter is a minor and 2) they are going to use IV contrast to get better images. Please let me know if your daughter's MRI is at Saints--let me buy ya a pop or Starbucks (the coffee Nazi's)--YUM!

I dunno Carla--they said "hundreds of carcasses" I doubt you would ever let things get that bad! No really--I can't imagine living that way--and if they were my neighbors I wouldn't be too pleased with the smell issue...
