Peaches - Hope you feel better soon. Being sick is awful. I'd rather go to the dentist.

I got home from work after dark yesterday and left in the dark this morning, so I haven't seen the new concrete slabs the crew poured Thursday morning. I'll be able to get home before dark today, so I'll take some pictures.

I need to drag a box blade around to make sure I've got adequate drainage, but beyond that I think the biggest part of the barn renovation is done! Metal roofing to cover the slabs will be ordered this weekend.

The metal watering nipples arrived via UPS. They look simple enough for a chicken to operate. Now I need to find the right sized round drill bit so that I can put some holes in 5 gallon buckets and lengths of PVC pipe to make the waterers for inside the new/old chicken barn. The watering nipples are threaded on one end, so I should be able to screw them into the holes I'm cutting in the watering arms (PVC pipes).

We had lots of rain last night. One of the outdoor pens has a tarp roof, and it filled with water forming a tiny lake. I used a shovel handle to push up on the lake from underneath, and the chickens crowded around my ankles as all four sides of the pen became the underside of a waterfall. It was pretty neat, and surprisingly, nobody got wet!

BTW - your webpage indicates that the sale begins at 4:00 and we have on our list of Oklahoma auctions that it begins at 4:00. Do we need to change the auction list for 6:00 for future auctions?

Renia,
Sorry to hear that you and your crew have not been feeling very well. Dean and I passed that bug back and forth last weekend and this week. Not any fun. On Tuesday, he asked what I took to feel better and I told him Nyquil and then slept all weekend last Saturday and Sunday.

Drink Gatorade or juice to stay hydrated and sleep whenever you can. Fortunately, it only seems to last about 48 hours.

That is because Kronk and Monty do most of the cooking and cleaning of the kitchen almost every day, since Krank would bonk them on the head with a club if they didn't.

AMEN!

Hey Maribeth, I am pretty sure I have an EE cockeral or two coming on. I still can't tell for sure. They haven't really developed any saddle feathers but some look like they are beginning.

I have blue and blue/red if they end up being cockerals.

Maribeth,
You and I haven't a dilemma on our hands. I am not sure if you have realized it yet or not.
We are both have breeding plans that involve blue NN's and blue EE's. NNEE's ?

I have some chickens from this years hatchings that are either EE's with no muffs or NN outcrosses that don't have naked necks. I don't which is which. I have kept them based on color.
This may not be a problem for you, since you are wanting to crosss the NN's and EE's to get a naked neck Easter egger.
The problem it creates for me is that I have to wait till they are laying to see if they have the colored egg gene.
As for the roos., it would take two years from when they are grown to be able to tell from their offspring if they have the blue egg gene.
I may have answered my own question because I am not gonna keep all of the extra roos that long to find out. If I just keep the pullets I should be able to tell as soon as they start to lay. Correct?
I don't know if any of this makes sense but thanks for letting me write it out. Somehow I think it helps.
Anyone else want to wade in and help clear my head, please feel free.

monty
