well sadly you can't shoot those kind of owls I think legally...but think of it this way they will eat all your mice, rats, and snakes.....just make sure your chickens are secure and your good! They are pretty birds...

Standard and Banty chickens, Some pure & lots of barn yard mix. As well as Guineas, Geese, Ducks, Swans, Pheasaants, Chuckers, and Turkeys. I'm also a plant nut, Especially exotic sub-tropicals.

Me too! (plants) Not as special as sub-tropicals but I have fancy begonias, fancy coneflowers, succulents and my favorite zinnias.
Zinnias may not be that special but I have loved zinnias since my Grandmother and I would mark the prettiest blooms with twist-ties from bread wrappers. Grandpa would save the dried seed heads when he pulled up the garden every fall and then plant them the next year. The blooms were huge and so colorful.
Now I have some crossbred blooms that are pale yellow and have red speckles. I call them Choctaw Speckled hen zinnias.
I found out that chickens love zinnia flowers and leaves.

Your giant hawk sounds like an eagle. I don't know of any hawks around here that large and I know we have a lot of eagles.

My Malay hens and black sex-link hens are the broodiest hens I have ever owned.

Malay- are those the tall skinny looking birds?

Malays are a bantam that is a plump hen with a long neck. They resemble miniature jungle fowl.

Do you still raise pheasants? Several of us are looking for yellow golden pheasant hens.

MM - Sorry to hear about your hawk and owl problems. Both keep us from free ranging our birds, and we use heavy netting over all the areas where the birds are outside. I don't let our terrier out at night alone. He hates being on a leash in his own yard at night, but I've heard stories from folks in our area about cats and small dogs being taken by owls.

Hi everyone...
