1. Run an electric wire around your property with step in rebar posts and plug it in to an energizer. Since you will one day likely get goats, get a decent one with 3 joules and 14,000 volt kick.
3. Build a turkey or chicken tractor with a door on it for shelter during cold or at night and move it occasionally inside your portable pen.
4. Move the netting about once a week along your fence line.
You could probably have this up and running over a weekend for about $400. Less if you just go with a protable battery or solar energizer and the poultry netting.
Better yet, I could loan you my netting for a couple of weeks so you could try it out, to see if it is a good fit for you guys. My brother is currently repairing my solar energizer if you wanted to use that, but you would have to wait at least a couple of weeks for him to find time to fix it and bring it up from Dallas on his next visit.
You could run down to Atwoods and pick up a small battery operated energizer. We could get you up and running in now time, then.
I'm about to move my layers from the netting into their winter home soon. I can just do that a little earlier than planned.
So the last few days for me have been very exiting. First with my 11/15 hatch Plymouth Barred Rock roo over White Plymouth Rock hens. Appears I might have made a blue plymouth rock wont really know till the feathers come but theres severalthat are blue as of yet. Then last night I was so exited that my buckeyes were coming from Ohio. I get a call that said my birds were being heldover in OKC till the morning so I gassed up the car and went after them. I had a water filled with vitamins and electrolytes when I arrived toget them. they were definatly thirsty glad they didnt have to wait another day. I will be posting some pics here shortly after the upload finishes.
BarnSwallow - I hope you are able to resolve your fence problems quickly. If you guys get in a bind, send me a PM. I could turkey or duck sit for a while since I have one empty pen right now. I'm sure my DH will be okay with it so long as he knows I'm only looking after them for a short time.
I got one of my new White Chantecler chicks to stand still long enough for a photograph. All my attempts at pictures yesterday resulted in blurry shots. These little guys are fast!
out of 11 chicks 2 had to be assisted out So I Just zipped there shells Put a warm washcloth over 2 sponges dampened with water creating like a little sweat house for them and I told em keep fighting they made it out this am. All healthy active and drinking.
And here are some pics of my buckeyes from david in Ohio this is my Roo.

Nice looking Buckeyes! Of course, I may be a little partial toward the breed. I can hardly wait for Dave to send my chicks. You are going to love those guys!
