Hi April,
I have Bantam Marans and Bantam Welsummers, my egg color on my Bantam Marans is only about 5 to some 6's on the Marans color chart, which is good for Bantam Marans, my Bantam Welsummers egg color isn't as dark as the Bantam Marans, only one of the Bantam Welsummer hens lays an egg that is slightly darker than the light peachy colored eggs I see from all of the other Bantam Welsummers eggs here, so I'm going to try and improve their egg color thru selective breeding, I have a trio of Bantam Welsummers that are not the German ones that are here, the ones I have are from Holland import of 2008 that came from Nate in Wisconsin, nice little birds, 2011 will be my first year of breeding them to get my flock, This will be the second year of me breeding my Bantam Marans for egg color and also other feather colors so I'm not ready yet to release any birds or eggs, a few of my F1 Bantam Marans pullets lay a slightly darker shade than the breeders they came from, I'll attach a picture of eggs from my Bantam Marans and you can see what I'm working with, I do occasionally get some lightly speckled eggs from them also, so you can see it is a work in progress. I have not yet done any crosses with Large Fowl Marans, I only have one small Large Fowl Marans currently all the rest are Bantam Marans, and I only have a trio of Bantam Welsummers, no Large Fowl of those either. The other picture of birds are Cuckoo and split gened offspring Bantam Marans.
