Al,

I'll have to take some pictures and post them. Right now I'm too ashamed of how badly my yard looks to take any pictures out there.

Right now I have 8 babies on the ground that are showing some promise. I usually cull pretty hard, but, knock on wood, it hasn't been that necessary this spring.

I have about 30 eggs in the incubator right now, but like I said, I haven't candled yet. That number might go down some.

Between weather and varmints, this winter just about put me out of the chicken business.

Henny: What kind of chicken is your momma hen? Last spring I had a hen just like her that went broody and hatched 2 chicks for me. She was so worn out after that that she ended up dying not too long after that. I was so disappointed...and I never knew what breed she was.

Took hubby to the urologist today and he is scheduled for surgery tomorrow afternoon..they'll be putting a stent in his right ureter....ack...just the sound of that makes me shudder.

It sure was windy today, but it's calmed down here for now..I can see the line of storms slowly working its way across the state though, so I'm not holding my breath on any lasting calm weather.

Have any of you seen that dude who sells the Sham-Wow? He's doing a commercial now for something called the Slap Chop.....he says, "You're going to love my nuts," as he goes about chopping nuts up....what a goofball..and his name is Fitz!

Yes I remember you mentioned you had some critter trouble, did you get that squared away?. Do you think any of your culls will be ready for me by POOPS??, if not no problemo. I can be patient.

When I was a kid in my huge immigrant family the old timers had a saying. they say that in our family we Live to eat!!! not eat to live.
If you ever watch any Italian movie they are always eating.

Monty :
You crack me up with your comments about the doc, my DW doc's all look like Yoda in her words LOL. So so true though seems like they are all from India or Pakistan, well at least they have tiny fingers

Thanks Al, What a nice thing to say.

Since I was gone all day, I just got caught up on my email and posts here and all I can say is it sure was quiet on this thread today...

Day 10 of incubation and I candled again...of my 6 Welsummer eggs, I can see 3 definite moving squirming embryos....sooooo cool! The other 3 I think are clear, but I'll leave them in there a while longer just to be sure, since I'm such a novice. Of my 6 duck eggs, I have no clue...all of them have something going on....4 of them have a lot of "stuff" in them including veins and blobs, but I don't see movement and it's just different looking to me...the 2 eggs that were refrigerated look mostly clear, but have a few veins...maybe are quitters. Since duck eggs incubate a week longer, I"m leaving them all in just to be sure that they aren't just all slow starters...this is such a learning experience....but those moving squirmy dark spots are just way beyond cool to me. I've got to back off and stop handling those eggs and just leave them be...I'm so impatient.

If anyone is getting rid of Welsummers let me know and I may be interested..

I'm leaning more and more towards coming to POOPS...I think it'll be a ton of fun and my girls love the idea of going camping with mom. I love the idea of putting a face to the names of all of you and getting to see a bunch of different birds...I hope the weather is nice that weekend. I'll have to think of something to make and bring of course....

I think the storms are getting closer to our area...hubby says that we are under a severe thunderstorm warning and I can hear the thunder in the distance. Just when I thought the coop was going to start drying out a little....sigh. Chicken mud stinks so much!!
