Yep we are!! Headed down tomorrow morning

My son is showing his bantam black cochins. I hope he does well, it is a step WWWWAAAAYYYYY up from the county fair. Our fair had 250 birds. Tulsa has 1200. BIG difference. I am so nervous for him.

LOL, yea sorry it was a last minute thing, Alyssa came up with the idea over morning coffee and wanted to go, 14 yr olds only make last minute choices and give you no way out, LOL LOL. she did seem to have a good time, that was because i made a no texting rule, which went over really big.

Oh yea i almost forgot, i processed our first Turkey today as a pratice run for the Thanksgiving day bird. Hooray it worked out just great with no problems except for underestimating that chopping off a full grown turkey's head is like trying to cut off your foot with a boy scout knife. the 26 lb hen is now ageing in the fridge for a special birthday dinner for my bride of 20 yrs. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURA !!!!!!.

My only problem now is that this bird was the little one, the big Tom might not fit in the oven at over 45 lbs now, and only 4 mo old. and i just got 100 lbs of 30% finisher today, thinking that they need some extra lbs, just like a girl to fudge on her weight LOL. so my next move may be to invite all of my good BYCer's to dinner hehehe.

Sounds like you have a good dog. Nice to have a dog that protects your chickens, rather than attack them, or let other predators attack them.

My moutain curr came through for me the other night. I forgot to shut the door to the feed shed. About 10:00 P.M. I heard him barking, but this time he was really getting after it. I went out, and he had 4 racoons, "treed" on the upper shelf. Good Dog.

Yea, nothing is better than ole dogs and children and watermelon wine..

and still several months to go!

Thanks everyone for the responses about the poultry at the State Fair. I wonder if there is still something that could be done to change it, even though they got rid of it at one time. I mean there are poultry shows everywhere right? And they ARE building new barns with better ventilation and A/C. They are awesome! People could do the same thing that they do at the Tulsa Fair; bring them for the show, then take them home once the show is over. They still show bunnies...and wouldn't it bring more money in for them, which has been a problem for several years now?

Poultry and bees I talked to the beekeepers association and put my name on the list to take classes....hopefully my sched will mesh with theirs, but if it doesn't maybe that's for the better lol I don't really think we need more critters.

Slightly cracked, your son showed the Cochins and Rosecombs, right?? Please let us know how it all goes, I'm excited for him!

Yep, he sure did!! We are leaving this morning and he is driving me NUTS!!! He is trying to get stuff ready and can't focus on nothing!!

But for a 10 yr old he is doing great. I think my nerves are getting the best of me too!

Hey Stimpy , Glad you came aboard with this wacky band of Okies. I will add your name to our ever growing list. You are the fourth Lexingtonite/Lexingtontonian on our list. We haven't heard from the others in a while.

I heard it is $8 per adult to get in the Tulsa Fair, and $10 to park if you park on fair grounds! I've been put out with the Tulsa Fair since the county Fair board ran Bell's amusement park out. I didn't go last year out of protest, as did many others. Attendance was way down last year.
But dang it, I want to see the birds!!!

Hey has or does anyone go to the 4 Cornor show in NM.

Try to decide if it is a large enough show to travewl from So. Ca. to make it worth our while.

Thanks.

Grace we haven't moved yet, looks like we'll have to way till the market goes back up. I've drove through Ok. about 8 times this yr. I can't wait til we can get out of here.

There were enough people who signed up for classes that there should be several schedules at different locations around the central Oklahoma area. (There is already an established beginner's beekeeping class that is held every year in Tulsa.) Keeping bees is fun and once you get set up, it can be very low maintenance. Even if you never get much honey, you will notice a tremendous increase in the production of your fruit trees and garden with domesticated bees close by. Besides, bees are just plain interesting to watch and learn about.
