Anybody miss me??!!
I've been so busy that I haven't had a chance to really sit down and read or respond...Big sorry to Al over the loss of his quail and chicks....and the mess you are left to clean up...
My chicks were supposed to hatch on Sunday. I had candled them when I took them out of the auto turner and left 23 of the original 36 just cause I could see something in them when I did a quick candle. I didn't want to handle them too much or have them out of the bator too long. Sunday came and went with not a peep...then Monday with nothing...I was getting so bummed...I thought I'd done everything right this time. Tuesday came along and I had a pip and some rocking eggs. That first one pipped and zipped and was bouncing around in a matter of hours...since then I have a total of only 6 chicks. 5 Welsummers and one splash blue andalusian. One of the wellies was pipped for a very long time and is out of his shell now, but is still wet and has what looks like yolk still laying next to it...I'm leaving him alone in there to see if it will absorb and he will make it. Any ideas on that? All of the chicks were late hatchers and I still have like 17 more eggs in there without even a pip....when should I officially give up on them since all the chicks hatched days late?
These were eggs from one of our okies and I know they are from excellent stock...so what did I do wrong? The temp was spot on for three weeks...humidity was good, used an auto turner and never opened the incubator until day 18...I'm so disappointed...don't know if I want to attempt a hatch again...sigh.
On a family note...one of the twins has bronchitis and has missed three days of school this week with a high fever, the other one was home today with a belly ache, my husband is having the stent removed from his ureter next thursday, this week my dad has been to the ER with chest pain, in the hospital overnight, then passed out while driving the Creek turnpike today and woke up as he was driving off the rumble strip on the side of the road...back to the ER today (on his 62nd birthday, no less) and checked out by the cardiologist and given a green light to go home, but told his emphysema has gotten worse and that might be his problem. We sure could use some prayers headed this direction!
Talk with ya'll later!!
