Have your husband set a pole in the ground. 6-8 feet high is plenty. Set it close, but not inside the poultry pen. Set a leg hold trap on top of the post, and nail the other end of the chain to the side of the post. When the hawk lands on top of the post to watch the birds below (and he will), the trap will spring and when you come outside the bird will be hanging there ready to be dealt with.
Kill it. Don't try to release it somewhere else, that just dumps the trouble on someone else. Just end his miserable existence and bury it. It seems cruel at first, but you depend on your birds for eggs and meat, the least they can expect from you is to be protected from being eaten alive. That's just my 2 cents.
