It is nasty humid here...folks are freaking!!! We are supposed to harvesting wheat!

Cleochick...have some high protein gamebird starter...over 25% protein. Have shallow waterers cuz they can't swim and like to try. Don't put them with other chicks for a bit...they can take care of themselves in a couple of days. You might want to feed them boiled eggs or cornmeal the first couple days. They grow fast and move fast. They can get out of an open brooder way before anything else even things about it. They are full size at about 8 wks and laying at about 10 wks

I'll have to remember Al's recipe for the cookbook thread.

Hey Teach-this is the best purchase that I have ever made for my wife, her chickens that is! Sorry Henny and everyone else for the losses. Here in the desert we do the 2-liter ice bottles and misters on a timer. Had to do the timer because I can't get others to turn it on when I'm not there.

I actually got mine for less on eBay, it is kind of pricey, but worth every saved bird. It is highly expandable and available from several online places. You can also connect cage waterers to it. I guess they should pay me a commission or at least an endorsement fee after all that but I love ours.

I just got a quick question what is the durability of the connecting hoses and fittings on top of the waterers? This is something that I am gonna have to get filling 12 different waterers 2 and 3 times per day gets old!!!!

Durability is good except for the darn goat stepping on one of the fittings on top.

(That is what happens when your wife gets goats without warning and you don't have facilities yet.) You can buy replacement ones of just the fittings/valves, and a 6 pack of the just the red & white waterer bases for expansion. I've not had any problems with the tubing or anything else and it has been in service for a couple of years already. I have had to pop the top off on a couple of them to clean out algae build-up but that was easy. I do place them on 5 gal. bucket lids in the run so that they don't fill them up with dirt so bad. You can adjust the water level in the 'bowl' by pushing in the fitting/valve to the desired height it is regulated so no hose blow out. I found a killer eBay deal on like 1400' of nylon reinforced double wall tubing for expanding. I have added onto the system with one in the grow out pens and in the brooders in my shop 100' away.

What's UC, does that answer your question?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I grew up on a farm and have dabbled in a little of everything, but if you call me a 'goat man' I might have to get offended.

What are the symptoms? Acronyms escape me.

LOL, no biggie. Unairy something or other, basically a goat with calcium stones like a man getting kiddney stones. I think he is on the mend but I am searching everywhere on how to properly feed him to keep this from happening again.

O now I will be calling you goat man just to get your goat!

Undissolved calcium build-up, is it a wether? If I remember right you just got it. Is he bloating? Could be change of diet, including pasture and weeds, or overeating. Wethers don't need that much to eat. You usually have to do surgery to fix it, I believe.

Call me what you want, just don't call me late for dinner!

yeah that is about it. so far we don't have to do the surgery, just had to cut the tip off so he could pass them.......so far so good, I am keep ing a close eye on him. He is bloated some but mostly from not being able to pee. He is now going so he is doing much better. He is getting a change in feed and overall management. I haven't had to study this hard since school!

You didn't kill the thread, I got tied up at work.

Family reunion, first in 5 yrs that we are able to attend. Plans are fairly loose; Sat reunion, Sun picnic/bbq with my new sister (she's 48, it's a long story), and I may try for a Tues night auction @ Lexington-I think. I haven't asked yet but I was thinking that I might try to go see Carla. Her place sounds fun, and I might have to buy something.

Any suggestions or offers?

I don't get to make it back very often and I'm running out of aunts and uncles. May do a fishing trip next spring with my uncle and cousins to Great Salt Plains.
