Ok City, If things work out, maybe I'll have more later. They have been kinda stingy with their eggs since I got them so I don't know how many eggs I will ever get for hatching.

Of course you know you could move to the real country and have all the chickens you want.

I like them but I not only need to downsize in the number of chickens I have but the number of breeds as well.

Well, finally got the house adjuster to come by...the roof is officially trashed! Should know how much I am working with in a couple weeks.

It is darn hot here! Makes it hard to get motivated to work on stuff. Guess I had better get after it

Be sure to wear a hat. You have a test coming up and you sure don't need any grey matter to evaporate.

Well, since there's no chance I'll ever own 250 acres (the only way I would ever try it), I'm afraid you're out of luck.

Hi everyone
frow.gif
I'm still alive & kicking, but trying to recover from a summer cold or flu or something. It is entirely weird to have chills & sore throat, cough & congestion in this summer heat. I've been trying to keep up with everyone here, but whenever I think of posting anything, I don't want to sound like I'm complaining about how I feel with this darn cold I can't get rid of ... the horrible heat wave we're all dealing with ... and work ... and, well I need to stop complaining

We live in the most wonderful place in the world and have the greatest people

I just wish we could all get together tonight and have another POOPS fest to make everyone feel better with the fellowship and plenty of ice tea & other refreshments including watermelon and home made ice cream!

Gerald and I had the pleasure of meeting Ke_Ben and his son today, but was rushed trying to get everything fed & watered before leaving for work. I sure wish we had had more time to visit and wish it weren't so hot!

I finally got a Sears repairman to show up for my broken washing machine. Let me tell ya folks, I don't recommend those newfangled expensive front load washers! My washer has been having "intermittent" failures, which are due to a faulty relay. The repairman says it's showing "communication errors". Of course, my 1 year warranty has already expired

Anyway, after waiting for 2 weeks to get a repairman, I find that it'll cost $380 for them to repair the electronic problem. I told him that I doubt I'll get it fixed after hearing from so many other people that have had problems with the front load washers. I asked him what type he had and he said top load. Well, as soon as this washer stops all together, I guess I'm going back to buy an old reliable top loader! Too bad I had to waste $70 for a repairman to tell me that.

I hope to go to Blanchard on Saturday if I don't get told I have to work Saturday night. We have lots of birds I'd like to sell, but with this heat wave, I think prices will be terribly low. I'll be happy just to go & visit fellow auction addicts.

Teach, you'll for sure have to visit when you get to the OKC area & see if we have any bantams you're interested in.

Does anyone keep cochins and if so, how do you keep them cool?

I went out to find 4 of my partridge cochins and one black cochin dead. Also a silver laced wyandotte and rhode island red hen dead. It has been hot but not like what it could be. Around a hundred.

Henny- that is a paradise! do you find you don't need a cover from hawks? or is it just the humungous size?

I don't keep cochins, but for any kind of poultry it is important that they have shade and some chance for air circulation. Chickens cool themselves by panting and by raising their wings. My birds take dust baths, sit in the shade and drink lots of water to stay cool enough. Also, avoid feeding them extra corn, since that warms them up from the inside out.

eta: commercial poultry operations run fans to keep the air circulation among the thousands of birds they have inside buildings in Oklahoma
