Al sorry to hear about your birds.

Man I think most of us know how bad that totally sucks. I got hit by both hawks and coons a couple of weeks ago.

Well Blanchard was fun. We did not stay long, Uli had been up since 2:45 am and worked on the heat all day so we left the auction at around 7:30. Plus I spent all of my chicken money on one bid. Yes as you all may have read from Carla's post I bought 5 baby peachicks. Man I am so addicted to these things.

The funny thing about that is I swore up and down I would never have peacocks. So much for that.

The guy who was selling them is really nice and I had actually talked to him a couple weeks ago about buying some chicks. Small world, huh? If anyone is interested in buying some peachicks I have the guy's number. He is really nice and his birds are really healthy. I got a couple of black shouldered indian blues, an indian blue, a spalding (hoping it is pied) and a white (possibly black shouldered). I did pay $15 each for them but considering I have spent $65 on eggs this year and only have 1 peachick to show for it that is a total bargain. Still hoping to get a few more next year.

I missed out on a some blue splash and barred cochins but I really could not afford them this week. Still looking for some silver laced, black or blue polish crested and partridge or white cochins if anyone wants to part with some. Oh and some blue or black americanas. I have a list of birds I would like to have in my flock, just to make it look pretty.

Well the weather is beautiful out right now so I am going to go play with my chicks, and turkeys. You all have a great night.

Some of the teenagers I lost last night were on the verge of laying and they were to be my donation to the live auction. So I guess I have to resort to plan B as all good ole army guy's have a plan B LOL. Now to figure out what my plan B is hehehe.

Coon !!! it's the only preditor thats kills just to kill and could of had the tenacity to find a 3"opening 8' up in a 300sq ft coop. That is my guess. I am way bummed.

AL

Al,

Evan has trapped and killed 8 coons in our yard in less than 2 weeks. We haven't lost any more birds yet, but there seems to be an endless supply of the little ringtailed suckers.

All in good fun though. What ya doin??. Yes rooster chicks are a royal pain we could be Bazillionaires if we could stuff them as table centerpieces.

AL

I gotta few roosters you can stuff.....

Al,

Sorry to hear about your invasion. I saw a coon out in broad daylight the other day. Told Mikey I thought they were like skunks, and if it was out in the day it was probably sick. It was skinny and skanky looking. Al, if I was you I'd be waiting for that sucker with lead. Your Iowa Blue was a handsome fella. I hate the thought of poor hennies under attack. I put my coop really close to the house. It makes for a lot of poop scooping, but I feel safer with them close by. Plus I can watch them forage around from the house. They are better than TV.

Yesterday we put that 15-hole galvanized steel nesting box in. In 104 degrees. That was fun. I had a lot of cleaning to do as it had been at the guys farm forever. Then hens were sure it was the mother ship come to take them away. Drama queens. Then Mike installed that cooler. I am getting a freebie from a friend of mine that was in her brother's sheep barn. The fan works for sure. But I will put that in the south coop If it is not ginormous. The guy that gave me my first hens came over for dinner last night and said I had a sweet outfit....That made me feel better. The girl I'm getting my cooler from brought her grandpa over while we were in Dallas (she hensits) and he insinuated I was nuts and an a--hole for spoiling my chickens. Tough titties if he don't like it.

Hope it rains. It is downright humid here.....so much for living in the desert!

Thanks to all for the kind words we have all been through this and it's never pleasant, and I thought I was in hog heaven for being so lucky having it not happen to me, I guess it was my turn. And all that after I finally got all finished with the Condo upgrade yesterday as a matter of fact, go figure Huh. here is what it looks like finished.

Al, what a fortress. If it can get through that, there is no hope for any of us. It's really kind of discouraging. Makes me want to give up this chicken stuff and raise something else.

Almost.

Catfish maybe. I'm not likely to get as attached to those.
