My wife might beg to differ on that first line. You'd think I'd know better after a dozen or more auctions, 5 of them chickens.

I had a great night. Came home with my third incubator (one is hatching some birds right now), bought a beautiful cage that fits perfectly in my back seat for almost nothing, and got a free dog. Australian Shepherd/Great Pyr mix. I love Aussies, and have heard wonderful things about the guarding ability of the Pyrenees. We already have a good dog for the front of the property, but needed something to guard the back pastures.

She is a tiny thing right now, but she should get a good size. We are going to raise her in the chicken yard so she grows up around a chicken flock. I'm probably more excited about her than any acquisition at any of the bird auctions outside of those Bourbon Red poults we got from Carla and Gerald. She's a beauty! The only thing I regret is not getting another one. There were two left after I got mine.

thats a great idea if it works... My pup really like my chickens alot.. to much... Loved them until they stopped. BUT it would have been nice to have a big mean dog out their at night...
I need to buy another palm turkey from Carla... Carla you have some a set ?

Beth are you saying this is what you are bring to P.O.O.P.S???? If so let me know and I will get it on the list.

Well Cement was pretty fun last night. Got to see some BYC people, which is always great. Not a whole lot of birds but I still found more birds then I could afford to buy. I bought two white adolencent peachicks. Paid $20 a piece for them but that is still cheaper then some of the breeders around here charge. There is the guy in Pauls Valley who was at Blanchard last week who I won the bid for 5 peachicks and he normally sells indian blues and pied spaldings for $25 each and there is a person on craigslist who is listing white, pieds for $45 each, so I feel like the price I paid was not too high considering. Just so everyone knows I am good on peacocks now. Have a total of 9 so we are set.

Auctionlover talked me out of bidding on a sultan trio I really wanted but I did get a nice red cochin pair. The rooster has a little black on his tail but it actually looks really nice. I also got a mottled houdan rooster for $8 which I think is a really good price. He is about as smart as a bag of bricks even for chickens but cute so it is all good.

As for wish list for POOPS I am looking for polish crested (silver laced, black white crested, blue, black, etc.) Still looking for some white and partridge cochin, and I guess some mottled houdans since I have me a really nice rooster. I am sure I will be adding to this list but right now that is all I can think of.

I am so looking forward to POOPS!!!

Actually, it is good on hot rolls, but I would probably put cream cheese on my toast before applying Jalapeno jelly. T'his is one of those things that sounds a bit wierd, but is actually wonderful. I used to make it in red and in green, then serve the two colors in different dishes at Christmas, poured over a block of cream cheese. With Ritz crackers.... delicious!

I keep adding eggs to the incubator every weekend & then 3 to 4 weeks later I'm trying to find brooder space to put the cute little fuzzy things in because they're crying to get out of the incubator.

the red hot pepper jelly requires that you use red bell peppers and those tiny red hot peppers (usually a decorative plant) or jalapenos that have turned red. I don't recommend trying to mix green and red peppers since that makes sort of an icky looking amber mix that tastes good, but isn't "pretty"

Carla, I was trying to clear out some space in my PM messages so was reading old posts and then cutting and pasting them into a Word document so I could save some of them. I had to laugh when I came across a discussion you and I had last summer about too many chicks in the house and that neither of us was sure how to get rid of all that dust. Some things never change.
