Well my rooster for the ugly chicken contest is no more.
I guess the pressure of winning the contest was too much for him. Either that or the high protein feed he was eating sent him into shock.

Just before dark last night he was stuffing his face and teasing the ladies. This morning he was dead under the roost.
I guess the hens could have killed him for dancing naked for them.
Maybe it was just more than they could stand.

R.I.P. Master of ugliness. You could have been famous.

You guys sorry to hear about your Roo's. Stimp I understand your delima. I have had the same problem with every dog I have own besides the two that I lost in the last year. I have two that have to stay in the back yard behine a hotwire or they will kill every bird I have. It really stinks.

The rain is here! I can hear the rumbling in my office. It has rained the last two nights but couldn't tell you anything beyond that. I slept through it all.

I haven't been feeling very good the last few days so things have been getting by me. I am only getting done what has to be done. I'm not sure what is really going on.

Hope everyone has a great day!

been there, my heeler/lab mix got my roo chick- my first experience with dogs instincts- that dog is now either in the fence or tied up, sometimes both since him and his buddy like to chase cows too--- maybe keeping him tied up? or rather 'cabled' as our dogs chew through normal leashes

Well, if you have hens too we might be interested in them. We have 3 really nice little hens, but our rooster didn't take to the heat very well.

I also have that assumption. Is it not true?

I went to get my little duckies fron Elgin today. I stopped in Binger at a place that had "farm supply store" on their sign. I just assumed they would carry feed. I walked in and all I seen was lumber and plumbing supplies. They didn't even carry cat food!

I chose to stop there because it was right off the highway on my way home. I ended up having to get off the interstate just to go to Atwoods and get duck feed. I was so upset.

P.S. Do I now qualify for "crazy bird lady" title? I drove 150 miles to pick up ducks!

I have a Wheaton peep!!! I am so excited! I hope at least one more makes it!! 4 to hatch yet.

Hey guys sorry about the roos...My friend had a beagle and it was the hyperest most destructive thing I ever saw. Someone told me that unless you work them alot and keep them drained they will look for trouble. They are very high energy and need serious training and working to keep them from getting frustrated. This one dug up everything and destroyed everything it could get hold of. It's just a high maintenance working dog.

(*edited to adjust unhatched egg number by one*)

Ok I am changed my plans on my new pen! It is going to be 16 x22 still but I am gonna divide it up into to 8 x 11 pens for my breeding projects! In yalls opinions do you think that 8x11 is big enough for 1 roo and 3-4 hens?

Sorry to hear about the dog problem. Been there done that but I have one word for you who have issues with chicken killing dogs. "Llamas"!! I know, I know but I am totally sold on llamas. My two even though they decided to go on a walk about a couple a nights ago cause like the forgetful thing I am forgot to close the gate, were heading home when we finally found they were gone. Of course I am pretty lucky to have two that are for the most part good natured and friendly. We have not had one dog in our yard since we got them and honestly you have not lived till you have been smooched by a llama.

Ok, ok I know "get off my llama soap box". Sorry!

I have to say I would love to have a bulldog, though. They are so ugly their cute, now if I could only convince Uli of how wonderful they are. Al and Quenton I may need to ask for you guys to help me show Uli the wonders of bulldogs.
