Yes, the Cement auction is the only auction I have ever attended that ONLY takes cash. For someone like myself who is math challenged and has difficulty keeping their bidder's number in their pocket, that can be a problem.

Guineas are very social critters. They tend to attract other guineas so you may end up with more if this one stays.

that is interesting, so don't be surprised if you look out and have doubled overnite??

Hi All,

Good news, I found me some RIR chickens! One rooster and 3 pullets, all four are 18 weeks old so it won't be long till the big brown eggs are a flowin I hope. I finished putting wire on the breeder pen and they are all in it now.

I've been looking over a lot of different breeds and I think I want to get a trio of those Mille Fleur Bantams. I'm not sure what good they are, but they sure are pretty to look at. Maybe I could have them as show chickens and enter them in the local fair.

Milles are pretty but it is just a color they come in several breeds...

Monty - take advice from daschunds before me!

I only have a couple years with them...but I listen like the dickens! They are easy...and I like the fact that milo works for them...chickens miss something when only fed milo...not all the right stuff...pigeons do better with the grains and I have had some that plain avoided pellets like they were the plague! I will give you the down low on them and might see about getting in touch with folks about some pigeons...I have been overstocked all summer with my buddies and mine so no babies...

Ok everyone, I have my list of birds I am bringing to POOPS to sell or trade. I have two roosters one is an araucan (kind of yellowly and grey) the other a golden americana who is about 12 weeks old.

I have at least one bourbon red tom I am going to bring and a bourbon red/blue slate cross that I believe is a hen. I may bring two toms have not decided yet.

I do have some cochins chicks that I do not know if I am going to keep they are about 8 weeks. Cute but have quite a few.

Also I have some showgirls one I am pretty sure is a rooster so I may bring him since I already have a rooster I want to use for breeding.

I swore I wasn't going to bid on any birds tonight, but when I saw the size of those White Rocks...

I ended up bidding against Al accidentally, but then stopped and bought a different pair of adults. But then Al and I did some wheeling and dealing and I ended up with the pullets I wanted in the first place, and Al with the pair of adults he wanted.

He loaned me a cage, but it wouldn't fit in the back of my Honda, so I ended up driving home with 6 loose chickens in the back seat of my car. My, you should have seen the looks we got in the parking lot of that mini-mart we stopped at.

Nice to meet you and hubby in person, BarnSwallow. Sorry I couldn't visit more with you at the time, but I had the fever dontcha know. Had to get back in there to bid on them birds I wasn't supposed to bring home.

And that fever is catching.

Barnswallow was at Cement? Gosh darn, I didn't get to meet her & her hubbie ... at least I don't think we met them ???? I did finally meet Jim (aka Buster52), and visited with Al & Hennypennies and Chiclooker and auctionlover .... I'm bad at remembering everyone's names. Sorry if I forgot anyone. I'm getting very sleepy and old-timer's is creeping up on me.

We had a lot of fun at the Cement auction, except Gerald was very disappointed that the auction owner said that our veggies would have to sell at the end of the auction since they aren't poultry related. So, of course very few people were left at the end of the auction. Luckily, Donice (aka oldmotherhen) bought most of our canteloupe and some cucumbers. Thank you! And thank goodness too ... otherwise Gerald would have done his darndest to talk me into going to the flea market Sunday morning to sell what's left. I think I have him convinced to feed most of the rest of the veggies to the birds. They will be so happy!

I guess we need to see if the owner of the Fletcher auction will allow us to sell veggies. If so, Gerald wants to go there instead of Cement. I know he talked to the owner of the Alex auction and they said we could ... and the veggies won't be sold at the end of the auction either! I sure look forward to trying out those auctions anyway.

We bought a Spitzhauben hen and 2 pairs of show quality silkies tonight ... all are absolutely gorgeous and I'm so happy! What a great way to spend a beautiful Saturday evening in Oklahoma with the fellowship of several BYC Okies at a poultry auction!!!!
