Well, the auction was going kind of slow. They insist on trying to sell things people don't want to buy anymore, like CRT monitors. I was there mostly for the semi-antique projectors (slide, film, filmstrip, etc.) and some office desks to use of work tables and tool drawers.

They are between that stuff so my mind is kind of drifting when I hear the auctioneer go "Come on, folks. Help me out here. A dollar! Whose got a dollar for these things?!"

I looked at what he was selling. Two five and a half foot tall server cabinets. Hmmm... Cabinets. Rollers on the bottom. Bars and attachments for shelf racks, 4 sets already in there. A power strip with outlets from bottom to top and its own power plug. Two big fans in the top for circulating air. Huh. Now what on earth could I use those things for...

[Gasp] HOLY COW!!!! Incubators!!

Man, my hand shot up so fast I was afraid someone would notice and decide maybe these things were worth something after all and start bidding them up. Nope, I was lucky. One dollar bought 'em both. One of them isn't so great, but I can use its parts for the good one. After studying them, looks like all I need is some insulation (already have it), a heating source or two, a hot water heater thermostat, and some plexiglass to allow me to see inside.

Then, of course, I have to fill it with egg turners, each with its own individual power plug. I have two but to take full advantage of these babies I'm going to need some more, so y'all watch out. I'll be bidding on every egg turner at every auction I go to from now till spring.

So, I'd say it was worth the trip. The perfect cabinet for an incubator and all for a dollar.

I'm a happy camper.

Congrats to Bill anD Kendra. Ive never made it to the fair but ive always wanted to go. Theres a Reptile Expo in Tulsa this month I wish I could make also.

Cleo, thats how Skyla is. Dose her up and she's fine, wears off and it takes awhile to get her feeling chipper again. I just hate seeing my girl going from laughing, dancing, and playing to laying around buring up with fever. She is getting a breathing treatment right now in the frontroom. But she seems to be feeling alot better. So maybe 4 days (hopefuly less) will show good improvement in your spud there.

Looks like everyone has been busy!

Al take better care of yourself!! We miss you on the board.

Monty, you are required to stop in an post during the day/evenings!

Henny, I am sorry you have had such a tough time. I hope your mom has a fast recovery. Don't beat yourself up!

Congrats to the kids/adults that got to show.

As for myself we got most of the coop done. Tomorrow all we have to do is put the wire on, the top, the doors and the little ladder thing so they can go from the top to the bottom. I have taken pic's and will post them later.

Nothing like a good chicken chase for a little fun. I'm actually getting kind of good at it. That net almost has a mind of its own!

Of course, I can also wait until dark and walk up and pick them up off whatever they are roosting on, but that's no fun.

At least its good exercise.

Well, any tips at all will help...I am just loving how they look...the chestnut red blending to beetle green and tipped with white is just lovely to look at! Pretty things!

Has anyone ever used (or know someone who has) the automatically closing/opening coop door sold by Foy's? We are thinking of getting one, mostly because we are gone at dusk sometimes and don't want to lose our chickens to a racoon...or some other villianous creature!!

Just thought I would share the latest pics of my life......this sickness has left me with plenty of sit down time

A Naked Neck mean? Surely not, you must jest.

From what I can gather the NNs were bred from game birds and yes the hens can get a bit testy. I have had to actually break up fights between hens but they usually only bother each other. From what I have seen they will usually not start a fight with a feathernecked bird but if another bird picks on a NN the fight is on, they are not used to backing down.

She is testy with all the birds......just introduced her to my flock.....she picks on any thing cept' the babies..........so that works for me , I actually had a baby pick a fight with her.......think its a roo......
