Sooner,

I got everything laid out, now I just have to determine the best place to start. I have to admit that it's much more fun to plan these things than it is to actually put those plans into action. I think I was born to be an "idea man". Yeah, that's the ticket!! "Stimpy The Idea Man".

stimpy - you never cease to amaze me...no pudding or jello...that was most of my childhood...I don't like jello much anymore but pudding is good...my mom used to serve us hot pudding on cold days for breakfast. I told my father-in-law that and he thought I was fibbing...told him to ask my mom...she confirmed my story hanging her head in shame...

Sounds like you got your nap yesterday before the auction. Besides, it isn't much fun working outside when it is cold. Of course, I also don't like to work outside when it is too hot. Between naps and the weather not being to my liking, I don't work outside most of the year.

Al,

I didn't get a chance to check her out today, but I plan to spend some time with her tomorrow. I'll try to get a report ready for you tomorrow evening. I'll say this tho, I like everything I've seen so far.

Ya'll make it sound like you are evaluating the motor on a used car.

P&B,

I have to evaluate her strong points as well as her weak points so I can determine where she can fit into my breeding plans, if at all.

She is solid, with a good strong head with plenty of width and a deep, thick breast that a Rock is known for. She has well set and well spaced legs and good feet with straight toes. I like all of that.

Tomorrow I'll try to determine what her comb, eyes, wings and tail look like up close. So far I think she'll fit in pretty well. I can't wait to see how a chick from her and one of my cocks will shape up.

We were raised on ice cream and milk shakes. When Dad died, we all had ice cream as a toast to his memory. He would rate ice cream by the texture and fat content. He liked Baskin Robbins, Lady Borden ice cream and Braums. He also liked frozen custard style ice creams. He had radar that detected Dairy Queens, A&W Rootbeer stands and Baskin Robbins - in whatever city he was traveling through.

Jeannie,

I've missed you. I was afraid that you'd been banished for talking treason.

As for the stories, like I said before, you can't live as long as I have and around the types of characters that I seem to attract without having a story or two to show for it.

To this day, the only way that I can eat any ice cream at all is in a A&W Root Beer float.

I have to admit that although I sort of understand the color genes, I wouldn't have the foggiest idea how to improve a line of birds so that they more closely meet the standard of perfection regarding conformation to size, shape and comb. My hat is off to you and Al and Les and OKBetsy and others who know how to design a long term breeding program to "improve" your birds.

It takes a lot of experimentation to be able to do it and even then sometimes I will get fooled by the outcome.

I tried reading books on chicken genetics but it made my eyes cross and my head hurt. LOL
