Cages?
love.gif

Teach, I have really enjoyed using the cages you brought to the first POOPS and to the NPIP class. I wasn't planning to attend the Blanchard auction, because I have an all day Oklahoma State Beekeeper Association conference that day in OKC, but if there are going to be cages I could get from you at Blanchard, I might be able to get my tired body to Blanchard after the conference ends at about 5. Would you have more than 2 cages? I know that 2 and maybe 3 will fit into the magic poultry van, but I do have a trailer I could bring if there are more. I really like those cages - they are the perfect size for young Flemish Giant rabbits.

One lone hatch is how I wound up with a turkey that thinks he is a person. He was the only one that hatched out of 4 in the incubator and I carried him around for 3 days until I could get to Atwoods and buy him some friends. If he wasn't being held, he chirped and my son would say "Mom, make that bird be quiet! I can't go to sleep!" That was in 2002 and the turkey still would rather strut for people than for the turkey hens.

Red Earth Feed carries it - with tax, it is about $32 per 50 lb bag. They are located on the I44 service road, north of I44 - take the Martin Luther King exit and go North to the Service Road and then turn right. Their phone number is 478-3424 and you might want to call before you go, since they do run out sometimes, but generally get it back in within the week.

Ouch, Ouch, Ouch!!!!
Do you like yogurt? Sounds like yogurt without any fruit seeds could become your best friend for awhile. Chicken soup made with those frozen egg noodles would taste good too.

Morning all,
Got a problem, not really chicken related but might(no pun intended) be. My dog has just started losing her hair, yes it looks mange but the cats are not getting it and they sleep together. I read up and there are 2 types of mange, one is hereditary and the other is caused by mites. There is the relation to chickens. Could my dog be picking up mites from my chickens. If so would putting DE all over her help her. Dont have the $$$ for a vet bill.
She doesnt really seem to be "digging" at herself but there are some sores.

We gave her a bath and that did seem to make her more comfy, but it still seems to be spreading. She is a good dog, she is the chicken dog and will take down almost anything going after them.

No monty kids are not getting a trio of cochins for Christmas, they will be getting apple jelly. The apple butter did real good, yummy. Still gotta wait for the jelly to set up. And of course Carah you can have some jelly.......no to bood-row.

Yes, I called Carl last week and he immediately sent it to me. Very helpful information. Thank you!

No more turkey talk... I'm being eaten alive with jealousy.

Anyway. At work at the primary job... it doesn't have much going for it except access to the intertubes. I can't even say it pays the bills, because well... it doesn't.

I wish I could stay home with the chickens all day, but I would need a "provider" for that, and J would get mighty ticked if that happened...

Every morning I wake my pullets with the Oklahoma U. fight song, "Boomer Sooner". My thinking is that this will help to motivate them and will put them into an aggressive egg laying mood, bringing them together as one cohesive egg laying team.

Well, yesterday we finally found success! #22 a 5'ish pound 13 inch tall fullback named Hilda laid her first egg. Much to my amazement she took the OU fight song seriously and produced a unique egg to show her team mates how it should be done. Of course it's not perfect, this is her first attempt after all, but through hard work and practice I expect that she will perfect her technique and will be producing much better eggs in the future. Here's a pic.

I obviously have way to much time on my hands.....

what a life watching chickens chase bug (we set for hours)

Chiclooker - good to see you posting!
Are you going to Blanchard this Saturday? If it looks like I am going to make it there, I will send you a PM - so you can sell me another wafer thermostat. I send the one I got from you at POOPS home with FaerieLady and it makes me nervous not to have a spare around, since I have guinea eggs and duck eggs that will need to be moved to the hatcher next week.
