And why black? I have 12 or 15 white ones left here by the previous owner, but they aren't food grade so I'm not sure I would want to use them for living things.

I've heard folks say you can get them cheap to nothing at restaurants, but I haven't tried it yet.

when it is cold out the black will keep the heat in. and if it gets too hot for them they can get air from the bottom with the wire. the wire also makes it so all the poop falls out

Shidalgo, Can you post a pick of your barrel brooder? Is the barrel cut lenthwise or across the middle. I have barrels just rying to understand the blueprint.
Iam challenged in an Architecture kind of way.
