That is just awful. When I was in high school, that happened to us. My cat was my baby and would sleep with me every night. My mom didn't notice him sleeping behind the car when she left to pick us up. I got that cat when he was 4 weeks old and bottle fed him. He was 5 years old when he died. I was only 9 when I got him. It was the last day of school and I cried all summer. I hope your daughter isn't totally crushed, but I'm sure she will be. It sounded like she became rather attached to it. Hope it doesn't ruin your vacation.

Editted because I was typing on my phone again. I hope I didn't make it worse by the original wording.

Thanks. Right now I'm sitting in my car waiting for the garbage truck to move. Curbside service can be a pain sometimes.

Brick - WOW! That is a great first deer! The spread and lenght of time is awsome!! Took me awhile before I got one like that.

smfamf - Poor kiddo! Tell her she has folks all over thinking about her!

Q - glad she came to her senses...you can't do nothing until they want help...looks like you got that one accomplished! No matter how much you think it would be great to do something...don't...that was the advice I was given...okay...my mommy told me I couldn't rip him apart...but i really wanted to

P&B - my Nanny was a very special person to me...she still looks out for me...so y'all better be nice to me!!!

lady - poor kitty! That is such an awful feeling...tough for a kid but they are tough

Brick, Nice deer. Makes me fired up to get back out there. So when are you getting yours?
I don't know who was more excited when my son got his first deer, me or him.
We saw a really big buck opening morning but couldn't get a shot.
He gets excited about all the deer he sees. Before we go out he is talking like "I'm not gonna shoot one unless it is really big"
Then he is ready to shoot the first doe to walk by.
We will be back at it on Friday and through the weekend.

Thank you Teach. When they pulled up out front of the house Sunday night, I was just wishing that he got any kink of buck. I saw that rack when they let the tailgate down, I couldn't believe it. To answer your question earlier, the deer down here tend to be smaller. Just woods and pasture, no crop land. Good luck on you and your sons hunt, that you mentioned. Brick.

Stimpy, You guys have come a long way in the evolution of deer camps.

A TV in deer camp? Who would have ever thought that?
I remember the first time we had a mobile phone at our Colorado deer camp. We were really uptown.
Before that we had to drive 40 miles to use a telephone to call home and check in. Never managed a TV though.
We had running water. You had to run down to the creek to get it.
We also had a nice two holer outhouse.
The closest we got to having electricity was when lightning struck a huge pine tree close to the cabin. And when I say cabin, I mean cabin.
Anyway glad you had a great time. Like you said it is all about making the memories.

Monty,

When I say "cabin", I mean cabin too. It just happens to have central heat and air, satellite TV, and a full kitchen and bathroom. Yeah, I know it isn't really a deer camp, but I ain't really going there to hunt deer.

Well I sure wouldn't turn down a cabin like that. Our only amenity was a giant wood cook stove. I loved cooking on that thing plus it put out a lot of heat.
The place wasn't much to look at but I enjoyed staying there more than any five star hotel I have ever stayed in.
I have a large picture of the place on our wall that my wife had enlarged. People see and it comment on it not even realizing it is a real place. They just see it as some rustic art work. Then I tell them it is my time share place in the Colorado mountains. I get some funny looks.
Well I get those anyway but I meant the part about it bening a time share cabin.

Monty

I went out yesterday afternoon. I sat in my son's ladder stand, only second time I have been on a stand. Nice! I've been suffering all these years and didn't know it.

I usually sit on a 5 gallon bucket or stump in thickets or behind big oak trees. I am getting a ladder stand next year.

Mulies or whitetails?

Don't feel bad, I haven't shot at one since my son started hunting three years ago. He has killed four. Plus my wife has killed two (with her van) since I last took a shot.

I have been driving the van a lot more but no luck there either.

I am waitng for some "DEER" Karma to come my way.
I have passed up many "not good" shots at some big bucks through
the years because I didn't want to make a bad hit and cripple one and lose it.

I think its about time a giant bucks walks out broadside about 25 yards and gives me the look that says
"My time is up, Just shoot me."

Hopefully this weekend I can oblige!
