Of course, those two breeds are the main ones in Production Reds. Mostly though I was just breeding because I was curious about the cross but I have to admit I was pleased with the outcome.

Thanks County... I had that open in another tab while watching Numb3rs tonight
glad to know I'm not the only one who bookmarked it/used it to consider different breeds.
I think I've got it figured out. A few RIR, a few Dorkings (hey, doesn't someone on this list have those? My brain isn't working so well right now... I know they come in several colors, leaning towards silver gray or bbr, but the bbr seems to be extremely rare), my MFCs and hopefully some Silkies. I really don't want more than 4 breeds.
Now I'm debating... do I want to try to hatch the RIRs? Buy them from the contact as already hatched chicks? Wait til I can get some pullets or hens? I know there's a perfectly good 'bator sitting empty, but hrm. Same question about the Dorkings. Decisions decisions.

Sounds like you're just havin to much fun! I wish we had a Sunday swap or chicken auction in my area but no such luck. The Hatch AGB's are doing great, no eggs yet, but I did find another little Hatch hen so there are two of them in with the cock now.
BTW, do you know if anything concerning SL 687 is being done this year??

Michael - glad your daughter likes the various flavors of spun honey. I am like her - every flavor is my favorite - on toast, crackers, straight from the spoon.....
Matt - is SL 687 some pending legislation on a national or state level? Oklahoma SB 687 appears to be a "shell bill" having to do with county jurisdiction. Here is a web site for tracking Oklahoma legislation http://www.lsb.state.ok.us/

oops, what I was referring to is State Question 687 - Initiative Petition 365 which was passed into law a few years ago.
