I have that book too it was a great read! Debt free became our dream just a few months ago

I try to have us live by the 10 10 80 method as set forth in the Mary Hunt's Debt Proof your marriage book( she was out there long before this Dave Ramsey guy became popular) and it helped us immensly we even had my truck paid off 1 year befor it was to actually mature and that was the most exciting thing.

We plan to garden this spring when it comes to the "earth" I personally try to live by the biblical standards of working the land for 6 and letting it rest on the 7th year... and because I didnt know if the sellers of our now home had worked the garden each year I decided to let it rest for my own conviction.

Brrr is right. In the twentys here in Tn this morning. I looked out at the pigeon loft and and chicken coops and didn't see nary a bird! Then I saw this head sticking up over the roof line,a hawk is scooping everything out trying to wait for a bird to get close enough to grab! He has been there a lot lately. I sure wish I could get him. Can't shoot houses to close. The birds all stay inside when he is around.
Thinking about spring chick orders, about the only breed I haven't seen or owned at some point is the English Red cap. Anyone have experience with them.

Ok I just had a email sent to me that had the following in it that I hope its ok to share, had me really thinking about how I grumbled a lil bit about the cold when in all reality I have been actually truly blessed and that I can face the coldness because I have a coat to help keep me warm where others may not.

Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings.. Thank you, Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible. Thank you, Lord , that I can see. Many are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising. Thank you, Lord, that I have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden.

Even though the first hour of my day is hectic, when socks are lost, toast is burned, tempers are short, and my children are so loud.

Thank you, Lord, for my family. There are many who are lonely.

Even though our breakfast table never looks like the picture in magazines and the menu is at times unbalanced.

Thank you, Lord, for the food we have. There are many who are hungry.

Even though the routine of my job often is monotonous.. Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to work. There are many who have no job.

Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest.

Thank you, Lord, for life.

I don't normaly use shavings in my coop's, I use straw hay. But yesterday while at the lumber yard they had some huge bags of pine shavings that the store manager who is a friend of mine and knows I have chickens asked me if I was interested in, The price per bag was $7.99 per bag he said I could have as many as I wanted for $1.50 a bag. I bought 20. I think that was a good deal.
