Those are the memories that make all this worthwhile. Thanks for reminding us that children love the baby chicks as much or more than we do.

Hope everyone has a warm, dry day and doesn't overdo the outside chores in this extremely cold weather. I looked at the extended forecast and it looks like we won't have to break ice for any of the critters this weekend.

We havent lost any animals thus far due to the cold weather but now that I say that watch they start dropping like flies ... lol.

Edited to add: DD just asked me how cold it is out side... I told her 11 degrees, she then responds with see we need to ICE alate it... I looked at her and said you mean INSULATE ... OH YEA THAT.... lol

remember folks this is also coming from the girl who a while back said it was time to bring out the Pullet Gun instead of Pellet Gun..lol I try not to be to hard on them considering all their lives they have lived in Town and was not exposed to this kinda of living... LOL

are they not also considered redneck statements?

The sun is coming out. I hope that is a good sign that we will actually make it to the high 30s today - which is enough to keep water bowls from freezing. Of course, the low temperature "predicted" for today is in the low 20s and according to the computer, the temp at my closest weather monitoring station is 10 degrees right now. Guess this would be a good day to feed everyone some extra corn to help with internal warmth. Brrrrrrr

Hey Al,

so I will have time to get all those things done that I have not been able to, to include going to a few auctions and getting more birds (so I will have more work to do

).
I do plan to meet you all at IHOP on Saturday morning. I am so excited about being around people who understand my poultry addiction. Have any of you noticed that people seem to be more understanding of a drug addiction then a poultry addiction. I just do not get it.
Well I have a meeting to go to so I better get off and get to work

Have a great day everyone

Good Mornin all you people that are up.... Well and those of you to that have decided to sleep in!! Just today for us and we will be setting out on our travels tomorrow afternoon to Shawnee!! I know some people are looking for birds maybe we should start a list for what people are wanting that way the people that may be there early can shop for you and maybe pick up what you need!! Just a thought!!!

I dont know of any plans for dinner Friday night, but I am sure that we will be eating somewhere we should be there by 5 or so on Friday as far as buying birds on Friday, I dont think the buying will start till Saturday morning.

Quenton that is a marvalous idea and I will be the first one to put my list on here. Hey this is almost like telling Santa what you want for X-mas.
Here is my list.
Salmon Favorelles
Partridge, Mottled and Birchen Cochins
White, Blue and Black Ameraucanas
Black Langshans
Sultans
U'ccle
???
Beards and Feather Legged Foos all the way baby!

Hey that reminds me, I read about all the project birds some of you are working on, so I thought I may jump on the bandwagon. Here is my project: Breed Ameraucanas with cochin until I get heavily bearded and feathered feet while maintaining colored egg color. Then breed with Sultans which I believe should make a frizzle type chicken with extra toes, beards, feathered legs and the colored eggs. Now that would be my perfect chicken!

What does everyone think? Is this possible or am I just daydreaming about the Nirvana chicken?

Have a wonderful day everybody, I have to work now.

It's COLD ouside!

Made a half-frantic, unscheduled trip outside a few minutes ago. My wonderful husband (he really IS wonderful, usually) proudly told me he'd let the guineas out--the ones in the front and back pens; not the side pen. Of course the ones that should have gone out were in the front and side pens, NOT the youngsters in the back pen. The only time they've been out was when four of the five escaped as I was transferring them and it took me nearly four hours to round them up! The adults still attack the one-year-olds in the side pen and have not accepted the younger ones AT ALL.

Vashi came back in and told me they should be all right--the five were in the back pen, but he was puzzled one was larger and gray. All five of the adults had all five of the youngsters trapped in the pet porter in the back; at least I think all five are in there. At least I didn't have to round them up! So far they're scared to come out, but I think they're all there.

While I was out I did a few things on my list for today. Still have quite a bit to do to get my birds ready for Shawnee. I've bathed all my show birds and am bathing the white sale birds. The others are just getting foot baths. I treated them all with Levamisole a week or so ago and will use pour-on Ivermectin on the rest today. So much to do, so little time!

Am very eager to see everyone at Shawnee! Is anyone bringing name tags so we can get names and faces put together and remembered?

Morning : Carah & Faerie, Ya'll get by this morning ??. Faerie how did your Foo-Foo's do last night ??. Carah I hope you have an easy and warmer day. I need to go and pick up some of Teaches birds tonight and give them to him on Saturday.

The Foos did great last night... and this morning, I had to convince my daughter that Foos don't go to school for show & tell. At least, not to her school in her backpack.
