At least you had something to brighten up your week! What's hatching?

So far out of a dozen eggs that Carla said probably wouldn't hatch due to age of the eggs we have three NNs and two feather necked.....Frizzles.
One of the frizzles is coal black right down to the toenails.

Time to move the brooder back into the bedroom!

That's pretty good!
And Frizzles are so neat to look at!

Well I didnt get all my show boxes done!!! Thank God for pet Carriers!!!

I have a feeling this show is going to be fun but it seems that my birds are not going to cooperate, my Quail D'Anver Rooster has split tail feathers and our Black Cochin Roo isnt very shiny and I cant find any spray that makes them that way so I am gonna let the kids enter them and see what happens as long as they have fun I dont care!!

My aunt dips her birds in white vinegar after washing and rinsing them. She lets them air dry. After they dry, she takes a soft cloth and polishes them. She's shown some really shiny birds in her day. Anybody else ever use vinegar? I haven't shown any of our chickens, but I'm planning to try the vinegar dip this summer just to see if I can get it to work. My aunt claimed that the soap residue never really washes off, so the vinegar takes off that last little bit, leaving the feathers shiny.

I hear ya Less but Pigeons I am clueless on, But these birds look healthy and vibrant it's a good sign nonetheless ya reckin.

The Vinigar will dry and won't be subject to the sticking dust of the show barn.

I also use vinegar in the rinse water. I've learned lots from others who know a lot more than I do.

I first lather with Adams flea and tick shampoo--for dogs. This year I started using White 'n Brite, a horse shampoo in a second lathering. When I didn't dilute it properly,i t turned one of my white silkies a very light lavender. It definitely whitens and is supposed to add highlights to darker colors. Then I use the vinegar rinse and blow dry. Lastly, I put three drops of Ivermectin on the back of each bird's neck.

This is only my third year to show birds, and I'm not serious about it, though I try to do a fairly good job. I don't condition them like others do; I basically take them from their pens about three days before the show and bathe them. My birds don't hold a candle to the really good breeders, so I knowingly add numbers and colors in support of them. Mine are getting better and I still enjoy doing it, but it is a LOT of work. Never, never, never would I have thought this transplanted city girl would ever raise chickens, much less bathe and show them!

Well the adventures in Foo-ville continue... after my daughter's play tonight, both the kids handled the silkies

I noticed one of them wasn't up to par, so I picked it up and noticed that her/his butt was all pasted! I soaked it in warm/hot water and loosened it up, cleaned all the poop off. Right afterward the little chick let loose more poo than I thought that little body could hold! I stuffed the chick back in my shirt to get it warmed up, then put it back in the brooder with the rest of them. Hopefully the bird makes it. First time I've ever unpasted a pasted bird butt!

Of course. I was amazed though at the Frizzles, I figured the frizzled feathering would come on with the juvinile feathering but it didn't it is the down also.
