My mom's da bomb

I pick her up after work and drive her home (she doesn't drive for medical reasons). On the way home, she asks to stop by Walmart, so I do. Then she drug me down the wild bird food aisle and said she heard Dad and I talking about how I wanted to buy bird seed and cracked corn to keep the chickens warm, but that I was really low on money. So she proceeded to drag these bags off the shelf to flip them over and read the ingredients, then bought three different kinds so I could mix them together in a large rubbermaid tote and feed it to the chickens since it's going to be so cold.

She said "What kind of Nana would I be if my grand-chickens didn't get good food?"

Then we rounded the corner and she snagged two parrot toys and threw THEM in the cart (the conures have their toys rotated, but these are different than the ones I have for them) and then went to the line and checked out.

She also refused to allow me to pay for ANY of it... and told me to make sure her grand-chickens get nice hot water at least twice a day.

This is one of the many many reasons why I love my mom...

What a sweet mom....

My mom did stuff like this for me all the time back in the day...Now she cries and says she can't do anything for us. It blows my mind...I could never repay her for all the stuff she has done for us and given us over the years....I just can't seem to convince her now is my time to give back to her....Oh dang...I'm gonna cry....

Neecy - I will try to get you a number for a guy that raises modern bantams...he has great birds.

Hey Teach THANKS!! I know you have given it to me before, but I am blonde and a bit dingy. I will have to plan a trip for the spring. I just can't take getting any more right now and having something happen to them. It to hard to see Shaun heartbroken.

It got all the way up to 37 degrees here today!

Oh, and other kids would say "Your mama wears combat boots!" and we were like "Yep... they issued her a pair in boot camp!"

Took advantage of nearly 40 degree weather this afternoon to finish readying the coops for this cold snap tonight. Hoping it's enough. It was nice not to have to haul water to the few coops that don't have heated dog dishes 'cause the temp stayed above freezing all day. Hope it doesn't get as bad as predicted, but at least it should be of short durtion. So far have no casualties. With around 100 birds, I think I've been lucky.
