Good morning!
Saw Michael Daugherty and Monty at Mary's swap meet this morning. Michael will be at Blanchard this evening. Tried to talk Monty into coming to Blanchard after Jared's ball game. I suspect we will still be there if there are a lot of birds to sell.

Michael said that the Alex auction had high prices for poultry last night.

Carolyn : I tried to PM you my number for Q, but your inbox is full. I copied his number to me phone and I will call him shortly, so he can save my number to his phone.

They are Omnivores but are happy eating the white grubs just below the surface in your lawn or the june bugs under a light. Through the years I have never lost a bird to a skunk. Eggs have been fair game though.

The scent glands must be removed in the very early stages of life. In older animals they get too much callous material built up around them. I have known people through the years with skunks that were not de-scented and kept as pets.

A skunk can only fire off his scent about once every month, if you smell skunk on two nights in a row then you have at least 2 skunks. They are fascinating little critters.

My dad had a skunk as a child... it was his favorite pet growing up. He found two babies after the mother was hit by a car. They were de-scented, then he kept one and a friend of his kept one.

There is a guy in Harrah area I believe that sells baby skunks. They are really smart and playful. Thought about getting one but they are really a lot of work and need a lot of time. I already have chickens. So no stinky cat for me!!!

Faerie - where did you get the start of you mille fleur cochin project? They are really pretty and I am a sucker for cochins and the mille fleur pattern. If down the line you have ckicks or eggs you want to sell let me know, cuz I would love to buy some from you.

Oh and good late morning everyone. It was nice to be able to sleep in.

Good very late morning! I am really late getting up this morning, I slept 101/2 hours!!! Now I am having coffee & I bet everyone has gone to start the day already.

Good info on skunks, I always think they are cute but only from remembering the loony toons cartoons. LOL.

It's raining buckets here in Haskell. Hope everyone going to Blanchard has a safe and uneventful trip there and back. Crazies come out when the roads are wet.

Since all the cool kids are going to Blanchard, I thought I'd check out the Collinsville chicken swap, but the rain kept me in. The ruts from the recent power truck brigade are too deep and too sticky to navigate in my little car. I stepped in one today and the goo literally sucked my chore boot off my foot.

Since I have to be inside, I guess I'll refill my coffee and tackle the current stack of sophomore essays. Have a wonderful time at the auction, lucky chicken folks. Post pictures and tell stories when you get back so the left-behinds can feel included.

Saturday morning, before the livestock auction that happens inside the barn, there is an informal chicken swap at the south side of the parking lot. BigOkie37 can tell you more. I'm going next Saturday morning, probably around 7:30 a.m., as I've heard there are a lot of people who come early. I'll be taking a few hens to sell/swap. I'm hoping to find hatching eggs, and maybe a bird or two. It depends on what's available. PM BigOkie37 for the nitty gritty. He's the one with the best info.
