Actually, Jerry indicated that they are going to sell groceries at 2:00 and then the goats and calves at 3:00 - followed by the poultry at 5:00. Groceries are a new addition today. They have been scheduled to sell goats and calves at 2:00 since they started doing that, but the general consensus has been that they never actually started selling them until 3:00 (did I mention waiting from 2:00 to 3:00 two weeks ago so I could bid on the bottle goats?)
Thanks to everyone who responded, we went to the auction north of Perkins this morning, they only had five dozen of fertile
eggs. We got those, they were RIR and some are RIR x Buff's. Definately not the marans I wanted! Oh well maybe the next time. I just didn't want to drive that far to get some eggs (92 miles one way) and the grandkids were getting anixous to get something in the incubator! You all have a great time, oh and if you would let me know what kind of bottle calves they had and what they bring. Thanks a bunch!
Theresa
All bottle calves are going to likely be Holstein bull calves at the Blanchard auction, since they appear to be coming from a dairy operation. They started the bidding on them today at $50 and they sold for less than $55.
I got there at 3:30 and they were selling groceries - boxes of dented canned goods, odd boxes of cereal, bottled fruit drinks. I really think that you could get the same stuff, but fresh off the shelf, for about the same price at WalMart or Crest - as the stuff was selling for. They took a break of about 7 minutes (Buster timed them) at 4:00 and sold 5 Holstein bull calves, one pigmy adult goat and 2 bottle kids - one was a Nubian buckling that went for $42 and the other was a pigmy kid that sold for about $12. They then sold groceries until 4:59 and started the poultry auction at 5:00.
There were a lot of hatching eggs, many of which were PO'd because they only were going for about $2 per dozen. Carla and Gerald's eggs went higher, but then we all know that they are wonderful eggs and have a high fertility and hatch into great chicks.
There were so many people that all the tables in the back were taken when I got there at 3:30, even though Jerry had tried to reserve a set of tables for us with a tablecloth and a sign. I didn't stay past the sale of the eggs and baby chicks. I bought some Buff orphington chicks that Anna Belle brought - very nice and healthy. We sat next to BethinOklahoma's husband and the two youngest daughters. I also bought 20 cinnamon queen chicks that are probably about 3 weeks old - Sam dangled his keys over them and declared them 90% roos. Oh well - guess what will be going to POOPS on May 1?
I also talked to Gerald, OldTownChicken (?), Michael Daugherty, Carl and Stephanie, Doc, Peaches and Montana, Faerie and J, and Buster52.

There were lots of Buff Orphingtons, RIR, some Rouen drake ducks, a trio of geese, a few polish, and some bantams. Since I wasn't really looking at grown chickens, nothing really stands out in my memory.

Kathryn,
It sounds like your plans are coming together. Congratulations! You have really worked hard to get this business off the ground. I hope you are feeling better and will be able to join us May 1 at the KOA so we can visit.
i think i need to do a head count tomorrow sometime lol , just to see exactly how many birds i have now lol , i have 30 new chicks in the closet , and about 11 grown birds 1 broody hen and almost forty chicks in the garage , 1 roo and 3 hens in a small coop , and added 19 birds to the big coop, and in the big coop there is a smaller coop in there with 1 roo and 9 hens lol , the big coop is where i have lost count lol ........... and i have three full bator lol
lol yeah i do but the new coop should be delivered this week thank goodness so i can sperate off certain birds to place in breeding pens to keep purity and all and then that way i still have my mixed flock for eatin eggs , and not have to use the pures to eat unless i get a surplus of those and no one who wants them ,
