Morning Okies,
I set 70 eggs today as the first step in our research project for the fourth quarter. No showgirl eggs, though, as there was some concern that mischief makers might ruin the hatch. I set eggs I was able to purchase locally and some from my flock. Students seem most interested in the Ameraucanas, as they were not aware chickens could lay green or blue eggs. In polling my classes Ive discovered that several have family members (uncles, aunts, grandparents) who raise chickens. They have expressed an interest in adopting a pair from our hatch. Too cool! This gives us the opportunity to draft an adoption document and study what it takes to raise a chicken from hatch to adulthood. Wa Laa! A lesson in financial planning and guardianship is eminent.
Eggs Set: Ameraucana, Barnevelder, Barred Rock, BR X Speckled Sussex, Cinnamon Queen, EE X, Maran X, RIR. Salmon Faverolles
Send some warm, fuzzy, happy hatching vibes this way. We want March 31st to be noisy in the classroom with hatching chicks and excited students.
Have a great day!
