Had a nice day today, rain finally quit.

Hello all. I have a couple of frizzled Cochins, but I doubt they are SQ. I got them from POOPS. They are just for fun and serve no purpose around here. Thanks Beth. We lost the baby frizzle the other day. It squeezed through the fence when we weren't paying attention. It was gone and we couldn't find it. One of the Leghorns that I got has started laying. We were shocked to find the egg a couple of days ago. Well less than a month after she started laying, my Serama has gone broody. We take her egg away everyday, but the last three days she has stayed on an empty nest. I went ahead and gave her the four eggs that we had collected that had not made it to in incubator. My RIR still has her original three babies plus a few extras. We have been sneaking a few babies in here and there. We usually bring her and the babies outside for a few hours during the day. We use that time to sneak in the extras. She is currently up to 10 babies. They all came from the same hatch and are the same color. She has no clue and all the babies act like they have all been with her from the start even though she didn't hatch a single egg. The rabbits are finally spending their first night outside. We suspended the cages under the carport and attached them to the side of the house. It is just a temporary setup until we move next month. Lauren's birthday party is next weekend and she has decided that she wants a Barbie party . . . only problem is that we can't find any party supplies locally for that theme. We can't even get a cake. I am trying to get her to change her mind.

I don't usually have that problem around here, but as soon as I say that . . . The bottom of the cages are about 5 feet off the ground. I actually had already thought of that, but thanks. One can never be too careful and I really appreciate the advice. I was actually thinking that making the cage hang higher would deter a possible escape. I'd hate for one of the kids to leave the cage open and a bunny decide to get frisky and hop right on out. We did figure out that we have three does and one buck. Talk about luck. The buck is the only one that has different markings. I thought that was kinda cool. He has been placed in a separate cage for the last couple of weeks. Boy them bunnies sure can squeal when they aren't happy! We figured out the hard way about the gender of the bunnies. Luckily the does were still too young to be in heat. They were only around 4 weeks old.

You have found a wonderful group of folks who live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma

Stimpy is also from Lexington. We know you didn't get your birds from him, since he thinks the only good color for chickens is white.

We are always excited to see pictures of homemade bators. Several on here have built their own and I am in awe of their talents, since I do well to keep my purchased incubators holding the correct temperature. Al won the homemade incubator contest last year - I think there is a link to it in his signature line.

Morning guys!

our internet has been really spotty this week, one drawback to satelite internet, you are only allowed so much data then they slow your connection until it gets below their cap... grrr trying to catch up with you all!

Kate!! Awesome news!!!

A little dillema with my banties... i got a cochin and silky at poops... the other day i went out and one of the original flock beat up on the cochin, she has a bloody comb, then i noticed that one of my little hens was really being testy, so i pulled the cochin from the flock and put her with the little silky- only, now the cochin picks on the silky- is it just the getting to know each other thing?? and the hen that is being testy, well yesterday she began attacking my d'uccle hen, they have been together for a year with no problems.... is that part of going broody?? or is she just moody?

ok, off to see what you all have been up too...

Morning!

Well once again waking before the chickens..

Had to kick them all out of the coop because they were all wanting to sleep in since its Sunday. Lazy butts!

Had fun at the auction last night. Got to see Carla and Gerald, which was great since I have not seen Carla since POOPS. Saw Michael, Stephanie & Carl, Stimpy and his wife (sorry can not remember her name), Sam and met a bunch of people I have not seen before. I ended up leaving at 9 cause there was just too much stuff and not enough birds last night. Jerry had a lot of bird supplies (feeders, waters, etc.) and prices were really low. I got 14 silkie chicks for 50c each (which I totally did not need), some featherlegged cockoo maran chicks for 60c and three bourbon red poults for $3. It was definitly a buyers market last night.

I took Stella to the auction. She loved all the attention from everyone. You would be surprised what people will offer for a cute puppy. The fact she is so sweet and friendly doesn't help.

I think I am going to go back to bed and try to take a nap before the day gets too much underway. Going to go hang out with my BFF today and see Ironman 2, so a fun filled day is guaranteed.

Hope everyone enjoys the day and has a wonderful one!

Welcome new Okike folks from one of the outof state ones!

Robin sounds like she has pms!lol. doesn't sound like a broody problem, proably just getting to know but if she doesn't stop I would isolate her a few days, then she will be the new bird and her attitude will be turned 360 degrees!

We have been doing yard work of a morning trying to get more organized, getting cleaned up sometime mid afternoon and running in the evening. We are tired but still going strong for now, I figure it wont be long before we take a day to stay in bed and sleep!
