I keep my keys to the gate on a keychain that also has a small Leatherman tool on it. I find it very handy for cutting feed bags as necessary to line cages.

The buckeye-australorp crosses will probably do a fine job of laying eggs for you. Yes, it is time to get the incubator going again

Barnswallow - are these the same neighbors who allowed their dogs to run your goats up and down your property?

I have taken a brief look at the statutes on fences and you could be held liable for damages caused by your animals. As long as you don't have any animals however, I don't think the neighbors can "force" you to fence your property if it hasn't been previously fenced.

I agree that the survey pins are the best thing to use for drawing the line for building a fence. It also appears that as long as you don't deviate from the property line more than 5 feet, you can go on the neighbor's property to maintain any fence you build. (an issue we had with a former neighbor who didn't want us to come into her yard and repair "her" fence that was installed by the person we bought our property from and inside "our" property line)

Sorry that y'all are having to deal with this.

You have found a wonderful group of folks who either live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma. You can see from the first post in this thread that we have a number of folks who are considered to be "out of state" Okies. Pull up a chair and visit awhile.

Yes, it seems like half the time I go outside I am always needing a pocket knife for something and I am forever searching my pockets and not finding one. Usually they're inside the pocket of my other pants or on the kitchen table, both places where they are of no use to me. I should start leaving them in strategic locations, maybe inside those things that look like fake poo that people hide their extra house keys in.

I just talked to DH tonight and he even suggested that I try to hatch those eggs and see what they look like. I wonder if I should call them Buckalorps or Australeyes? I suppose I shouldn't name my chickens before they hatch, tho.

Yes we know its the same neighbors to whom we thought were on great report with as the deputy went to their house first and then to ours and he actually told us it was them...

and No these are not the ones with the goat chasing dogs (those folks live on the North East side of our property... although their dogs have been known to come over and crap in our front yard....

No report of birds damaging their property just they dont want them over there... again blows us away because they do feed them scraps every so often and have stated to us all they are not a issue... we have a possible idea as to why they may have resorted to this but we cant prove it so until they actually come talk to us we of course will be doing what ever we can to keeping the animals in and obviously that may resort to selling them all off for now... which makes me mad since they still have a few months until we can dress them

The only fence we have at this time is the Chicken run and that is where we had them once the first visit came with the deputy...
When I noticed the plywood on the run doorhad fallen down I immediatly went outside to see where the birds were(30 min after I had been outside most of the morning trying to locate the darn pin stakes)... Which they was on our property... after I went ahead and corraled them back into the chicken run... the deputy comes by for the second visit... thats how crazy it is...

The way our property runs along with theirs its wacky... we actually own the property that is in their back yard per say... our lines runs like a upside down block L if you were looking east to west.

I thank you guys for the encouragement we are willing to do what we have to do and take responsibility but we have a strong feeling this is just the beginning of some thing bigger that is going to go outside anything we try to fix... to which I hope I am wrong...

Hayfever is making my life miserable right now. Sinus headaches!!!! I've never had this much trouble in the fall. Trying to figure out why - could it be that all the rain this summer made more weeds grow than usual?

welcome! i did the opposite- grew up in san diego, married a navy okie and came back here when he retired

so where are you in ca?

you can always have a cyber okie home here!!
the advantage of that is no taxes no utilities bills and no laws regarding chickens!! make a huge chicken ranch and we will have a cyber party!

morning okies... i/m surfacing again after a commission that took all my time, its crisp this morning- love this time of year... we are doing concrete for the banty run, and making it tall with lots of roosts- they will really think they are in heaven! the standard fowl are almost one happy family now, a few cases of feather pulling, but mostly getting along. The little guinea, scooter, may have leg issues, but his wings work! found him yesterday morning on his water container- this is becoming an experiment in guinea behavors, they are in a rabbit cage in the dining room, constant human interaction, the healthy one will land right in my lap when i am working on scooters good leg- am doing physical therapy on it to make sure it doesn't atrophy in the toes, his 'backwards' leg is actually healthier and stronger since he pushes with it- weird...

ok ducks are calling to be let out, and the day has started- have a good one!!

Yes to the ragweed but I also have problems at school in the middle of the city. I need to use the local honey we got from Marybeth at Poops.
