Wow! Y'all were a chatty bunch today. It has been a long time since we turned a page or two in one day.

A friend sent me an email with a link to an Ipod Application that helps you pick the variety of chickens you should get. It is put out by Mother Earth News. Good Grief

She is splash, so far mostlt splash back out of them as she is being mated to a blue. But we will get there it is a numbers game with blues, and patients is a great requirement with new varieties of anything.

And you are working with lacing too, which is like a 100 times more challenging!

Lacing really is not as difficult as most would think, once you understand what the problems are and how to compensate mate them to resolve the issues it is quite simple. There was very extensive writing of the laced pattern in the development of the wyandotte breed and how the various problems were solved, how to breed and compensate breed for the problems and what to do and not do. It was published in the late 1860s or 70s so the language was different but a very good read.

We already have an APP for that it is the BYC thread, we need to get that APP shut down so we can enable more people..... That is not helping our cause at all..

Al and I have tried to keep everyone stirred up today, sometimes at the same time,
how are you today Maribeth?

Ready to go home. Got some office work done and feel like I am coming down with a cold. Going to go home and feed chickens, then drink some hot tea w/ honey and go to bed.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I hope it passes quickly. The honey always helps those problems. Get to feeling better and hopefully tomorrow is a better day.

That was my thinking as well. Who needs a computer program that asks silly questions like "Do you want chickens for eggs or for meat or for fun?" Do you want a heritage breed? Do you want?????

You did a good job of that this morning by explaining that some chickens lay eggs more regularly than others and that some chickens lay better in the winter and some lay better in the summer.

Of course, our usual suggestion is to get a couple of each breed you might be interested in and try them out for a year to help you decide

That is the way I have narrowed my favorite breeds to only a dozen or so.

I have decided I only like bantam and standard birds. They need feathers sometimes on thier feet too. It helps when at least 50% of the pen can lay eggs and the others crow. Those are the ones I like.
