oklahoma chickenstock-- SUCCESS!!!AWESOME!!!THANKS TO ALL!!

I completely and totally agree with Grace!

That is why I am trying to find anything and everything that might be profitable in a raffle, to donate!

I also make jewelry and would be willing to make some chicken themed carm bracelets and such.

I will also try to find time to crochet a chicken themed afghan.

Since I am new someone please let me know if you think my roo and Egg Grab Bag (from early post would pull much interest. I talked to DH and he thought it was a great idea and agreed to donate anything we can to help the cause.

We just need input from others as to what we have that others might be interested in.

As far as the food, I think Pot Luck would be fun! We could all try each others great chicken and egg recipes! And those that are traveling ould even just pick something up from somewhere.

We have this wonderful forum where we could start a list of what everyone would like to bring food wise so we don't have tons of duplicates.

Anyway just a few ideas! Let me know what you think!

Food... could we ask that who ever {Wildhorse BBQ} or someone else set up as a stand and we each pay for what we eat.

Also us ladys could bake up something good and have a cake walk or bake sale. And we could also add chicken related things, what nots -hand towels
ect.

Kaacres, thanks

I'm for-sure the hatching eggs would be a good idea, and if it wouldn't be much trouble for you to keep the rooster until then, I imagine he would be a great addition, too

Oh, also all the jewelry and the afghan sound great, too

Okiehen, that would be a really good idea, if we could get them to set up a booth

I'm a total noob when it comes to chickens, but I have helped organize some convention type things before so let me toss out some advice and ya'll take what is useful to you.

*Food. I really, really, REALLY recommend that you find someone that has a booth they will run for the event so that people have to buy their own food. Shouldn't cost you anything and the liability of dealing with food allergies, cross contamination, storage, etc. won't have to be worried about. Remember, what you think of as common sense..ain't. And there is always a chance someone will get sick, will blame the food, and will want to sue, more often than not.

For help finding a booth like that see if the fairground people have any ideas. Or, if you're out and about and see someone at a booth like that, ask them if they do other places/shows. You'd be suprised what you can find.

*If this is going to cost you (the organizer) ANYTHING, charge a small fee to gain entrance or have some paying exhibits up. These things can get expensive fast and you don't want to be left stressed, broke, and wondering what the devil just happened to you.

*Call and invite everyone you think might even be remotely interested. Chances are several will say no, and the worst they can say is yes, right?

*Be prepared to have some sort of activity for both young and old. If kids get bored parents will often leave with sweaty, cranky children in tow.

*For raffles and such...decide on your rules early and stick to them! For example: do they have to be present to win? how many entries allowed per person?

*Are you going to allow trades/sales on site or have an auction? If so investigate the rules in the county the event is going to be in , there might be some regulations that say what you can and cannot do. Please do this especially if the trade/sale is going to be 'endorsed' by the Chickenstock crew.

*Do you have a backup plan in case the weather acts up on the day of?

*If possible, get some sort of written contract with people that are going to be doing exhibits. You'd hate to go to all this work and then not have people show up.

*Advertise! Are there any free publications you can put an ad in? Newspapers? Craigslist? Feed store bullentin boards? Etc. The more you advertise the more attendance you will have.

If I think of more stuff I'll post it. I hope some of this helps.

Great advice and ideas all, and we will certianlyuse them all, sorry for such a late post I was in the hospital with food poisoning and the intestenal flu, but I'm out now and getting caught up on things quickly, I will check on all rule and regs for this county, go ahead and call papas and just see if they would be interested, I will get with OK foods, and the feed stores round here, and ya'll can do the same just keep in mind though we are still waiting on the fair board meeting on the 1 st as for the date of the event, I will know for sure something by the 2nd or 3rd. Grace thanks and hope to see you in the fall hook swap also.

Remeber if ya'll are in any breed clubs feel free to ask them if they would want to set up a booth. And I guess we need to decide on weather we should charge a booth fee and how much it would be, ya'll give me your opinions on this. Waiting to here from ya'll and have a great weekend.

Well got some more good news if I can get the 4-H to be a sponser then we could get the barn free of charge and would also be helping out the local 4-H clubs be letting them run the consession stand and let them keep the profit and they can use this also as a project toward their record books. So I'am going to get on top of that tonight. I got alot of information today from my cuzn that works for the USDA and she gave me a lot of great ideas too. And any moneys that are made such as raffles by indiviuals can be kept or donated to next years chickenstock or to their local clubs if wanted. I do have to say that we may need to make aleast one rule to protect everyone and that is the pull and Typhoid test. WHat do ya'll think? That way we can be worry free about our pets and babys and such. Ya'll tell me what ya think on the idea. Will be back later this afternoon gotta go gather somemore info. be the way I do know that anyone coming from outta state will have to have theirs tested no matter what as that is a fedral law, bout transporting across state lines thing.
read ya'll later.

well hope ya'll arn't to tired of all this reading, I have been doing research and heres more for ya'll to think about, I will look in to having some t-shirts made that say chickenstock 2008 if mriah will be willing to maybe draw us up a design for that (maybe a chicken playing the banjo or dancing) I think we should have a chicken dance contest for the youngsters and give a rubber chicken and $5.00 or $10.00 dollars as the prize. Also I am going to talk to some of the local barn building companys in the area and see if they might like to set up some booths.
