oklahoma city zoning - busted for my chickens!

you have to get rid of them by 5/28/07? you could show that to your lawyer just from having the guy who put that on your door look stupid.

Interesting idea - once I knew a woman whose land was in danger of being bought out through eminent domain to put in an exit ramp. She owned horses, and successfully petitioned that they were her livelihood, and that having to relocate would ruin her business. Any avenue is worth a try...

Well, here is the reply I got from OKC.
********
City ordinances prohibit the keeping of livestock or fowl within the City limits except on properties of one acre or more.

If you have any other questions about this issue you can call our Zoning department at 297-2365. Also, if the link to the Municipal Code is not working, you can access it via www.municode.com.

I told them the link wasn't working and it's not, and I'm wondering if this guy realizes the link takes you to municode.com which I couldn't get to come up AT ALL. Sorry if you can't keep your babies. I know you'd be able to find good homes for them if they really do have to go (hint hint).

a few friends say they could take them temporarily until this is settled. i guess if i lose out, i'll have to find a permanent home. i'm trying to study up on what i need to do city council wise. i'm sure there's some protocol for providing references, petitions, etc.

if i do lose and have to get rid of the chickens, i'm going to fill my entire backyard with quail, who AREN'T mentioned in the code.

The thing I noticed when I read the code is that it said

2703.1. Animal Raising: Personal. Premises where agricultural animals are fed or kept for personal use and for agriculturally related projects by the owner or occupant of the premises. For this use unit, agricultural animals shall mean livestock and poultry, including but not limited to the following domesticated animals: cattle, horses, sheep, goats, asses, mules, swine, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, and guinea fowl. Domesticated chickens, turkeys, ducks, guinea fowl, and geese are the only birds included in this use unit. This use unit shall be subject to use regulations set forth in Section 59-6200.4.

Domesticated chickens, turkeys, ducks, guinea fowl, and geese are the only birds included in this use unit

Which in MY opinion means that any wild fowl (NON DOmesticated) would be exept to the code...meaning you could get a bunch of pheasants or quail like you said or Mallard Ducks..etc...

Well. I know you don't know who turned you in, but if it was me, and I found out for sure it was the neighbor with the constantly barking dogs, I'd be sure to find out about any nuisance dog or barking laws.

But that's just me.

I like your thinking.... I didnt see any restrictions on peafoul either (peacocks). Of course that is a boat load of codes, you are probally not in compliance with them all so better read up before making people mad.

eggcetra_farms. the link to the codes worked fine for me, check you browser settings.
