Old English Game Bantams questions

Definitely has Ginger Red in her! That salmon colored breast would indicate a BBRED Ginger cross. Pretty little hen! I've always considered the Ginger hens to be way more attractive than the roosters
Thanks. She's the best momma. Matter of fact, she is my designated broody this year. I had about 8 bantam chicks go broody last year, then it took them forever to lay again. My SDWs still aren't laying well. That little ginger hen Harriett, is missing some toes, from an accident before I got her. She lives with an extra SDW cock and an extra blue brassy girl, I won't likely hatch any eggs from that pen, but Harriet will have a home here forever.

Lol! WVduck, I figured no one would see it under this topic. I thought I was putting it under a OEGb thread. It was supposed to go to General Breed discussion but don't see it .Basically, I want to know the good, bad and the ugly about the cockerels and taking care of them, how the situations are handled, etc. Thanks.

Oops, I didn't even realize what section we were in. We can move this discussion to this thread

HEY @Merrell89 do you think they are a good breeding set? ive been told hes to dark an shes to light what do you think

I'd say that's accurate. Show quality and breeding are often two different things. I have plenty of great breeders that I'd never take to a show. It's all about traits and seeing which bird will offset negative traits of another in the offspring, or which ones will compliment each other (a good example could be breeding a light hen to a dark rooster)

From what you have there, Id say hatch out as many eggs as you can! My guess is that you'll see that your males will be better than your females from what I can see. But I've been wrong before!

A lot of ppl that breed gingers have a seperate male and female line, so that's pretty common though.

I sent you a PM as well. Good luck with them!

I am new to keeping Old English Game Bantams. My OEGs are in their own coop with no other chickens. I decided to hatch a clutch of eggs from my small flock. After they hatched. I noticed that one chick that is considerably larger than the rest. It is the same size as some American Gamefowl that I hatched out the same day. Is this a normal occurance?

Are you positive the eggs didn't get mixed up, or that none could have cross-mated?

Yes, they are totally isolated from my other chickens. I used seperate incubators and brought the eggs straight from the coop to the incubator. The gamefowl eggs I set in my other incubator are red quills and my bantams are BBReds. All chicks have the proper markings of their represented breeds.
